GPxSound patch for GP3 settings?

by Lutrel » Wed, 18 Jul 2001 01:23:39

This sound patch(GPxSound ver 1.30) for sound from the other cars is great.
However I don't know if my setting are still correct or if its just a
problem with the patch, but I hear a weird high pitch sound when I am not
near the other cars. It sounds a bit like an electric circular saw cutting
wood in a wind storm. I tried most of the settings in the readme but they
did not make it better.
Does anyone know the best settings?
This is what I have (I think they are still default setting?)
Engine .wav file          engine.wav
Min dist. 2.0
Max dist. 20.00
Doppler factor 1.00
Rolloff factor    1.00
Distance factor 1.00
Pitch 0.80x revs + 4000 Hz
Volume 0.20 x revs + -2000 1/100db

3D algorithm= Default
Use voice management=yes

I am using SBLive MP3-5.1

Also are there any .wav files that can be downloaded for the 2D events?

Thanks,
Lutrell

Well, the only differences I use are :
Min. dist 4.00
Max. dist 200.00
Pitch 1.20 x revs + 4000
All others are the same as you and I don't have the problem you describe.

I have the same problem, don't think it's a parameter thing. Since the sound
is rather soft, I just ignore it.

Alpha F1 has several soundpacks for GPx (http://alphaf1.com/gp3/)

OK , thanks for the info and link. Will try them.

Why didn't the game come with these sounds? I guess they needed something to
use as an upgrade for GP4. :b

The upcoming upgrade contains the 3D sounds (among other things). According
to Alpha F1 it will be released August 3rd.

The sounds go in a subdirectory of GPxPatch: gpxpdata\snd\. The soundset.ini
should replace the current soundset.ini that was installed by GPxPatch. Then
the new soundset.ini contains the directory where you must place the sounds.
Something like gpxpdata\snd\pit, but depends on which soundpack you try.
