I recently began playing ICR2.  I did ICR-1 and Nascar extensively.  The
tracks in ICR2 seem much slipperier.  Michigan with the Ace setup seems
like glass.  You can't seem to go full out all around like you used to in
the old version.  Anyone have any comments on this?  Bug?  Feature?  Real?
 Fake?  Need more practice?

Same here.  I just thought I sucked at this game!  I'm playing on a
486-66 and was wondering if a Pentium would suffer the same problems?

When I was playing ICRI extensively, I could beat the competition at
any level.  In ICR2, I feel lucky to go two laps without spinning out.
It doesn't seem as bad when surrounded by traffic though(too bad they
lose me when I spin).

If you find a solution, please e-mail me.

No, contrary to popular belief, this is not a bug. Real 95 IndyCars behave
like this. I know that it looks very easy to drive an IndyCar when you watch
a race on TV or go to one, but this is the same stuff real IndyCar drivers
have to put up with. It doesn't seem like it, but then again, these guys are
pros. All you can do about it is get a good setup and lots of practice.

Only in that you'll get better frame rate with more detail. All things being
equal between two machines, including framerate, it just plain helps to get
more detail.

I've got a p90 and a P133. (my roomamte and I race all the time). I just
swapped out my P75 for a P133 and it made a hgus difference, (17" monitor too).
You just see more of the track and it feels like you can anticipate and react a
little better. (course we also have a T2 and an ECCI CDS. ;->)

Re: SVGA ICR2 vs ICR, it seems that ICR has a better VGA look. my friend
swapped out ICR for ICR2 on his 486/66, and has a tougher time dealing w/ VGA
on ICR2.

Real.  ICR2 uses 1995-spec cars, which have 40% less downforce than 1993-spec
cars, which is what ICR1 has.  I suspect that, in addition, icr2 is more
realistic.

If you work on the setup, you CAN go around Michigan without lifting.  That's
how you can run 242+ mph... I don't think it's possible to go around without
lifting some with full tanks.  If it is, I sure haven't hit THAT setup yet.

In ICR2 Papyrus modeled the reduced downforce rules for the 1995 season,
that is why the track feels a lot more slippery.

After a bit of practice though eventually you will become used to it and
start giving the computer opponents some real competition. The upgrade in
the computer AI really improves the gameplay in ICR2 for me, I could not
go back and play ICR1 with it's dumber opponents.

> WARP'n across the 'NetIn the past few years since the first ICR was released many rules changes

were made to the cars.  The downforce was reduced by as much as 25-35% as
I've heard.  Though the teams have gained some of that back they still are
down by a lot.

Nonsense.  Lower opponent strength to 85%; then you can set your boost setting
at 1 to reduce the amount of braking you need to make for the turns.  Also, you
can brake earlier at the lower speed, so you shouldn't have problems
negotiating the turns.  At the same time as driving around the course
carefully, you won't lose time on the other cars.

There's nothing that makes me spin off the track more than a faster car putting
pressure on me from behind.

I guess professional racing is not the job for me.  :-)

Why don't they make important settings like this configurable by the
user? I understand going for realism in a simulation, but that doesn't
mean you shouldn't have adjustments for different skill levels (i.e.,
this is not the same as being able to adjust the oponnents strength -
that does nothing about the difficulty of driving your own car).

I have ICR II, Nascar, and just about every other PC racing and
driving game, and to be honest ICR II is the only one I don't play.
Every now and then I go back to try it again, and I rarely last five
minutes before I get bored of spinning out and go back to Nascar or
some other game. I'm not a bad driver or inexperienced gamer, and I've
seen a lot of other people with the same complaint about ICR II. Is an
adjustable skill level really such heresy in a simulation that they
can't provide it for people who are trying to learn the game?

My car got very loose at Road America but after adjusting the Joystick
settings everything returned to normal.  It does take a lot of practice to
get good at ICR2.  I've been playing Nascar since it came out and the
better I get the more I like it.  I hope ICR2 will be the same.

As I said, I'm not a bad driver. I have no problems with Nascar or
other driving games (or driving in real life for that matter). I'm far
from the first person who's complained that ICR2 is too hard to
control when you're learning it. But hey, if Papyrus is too closed
minded too listen to their customers complaints I don't mind, I'll
just take my business elsewhere. I suspect, for example, that F1GP2
will have adjustable skill settings like most computer games do.

i also found at first that ICR2 was a lot more frustrating than ICR1, but
now, i simply love it.. lots of lots of practice.. easy on the braking..
get a good joystick or wheel.. and most of all, ADJUST your car setup to
your *style*.. HUGE difference.. i found that all, (easy, fast & ace)
setups were so badly out of whack, and after using up most of my march
breaks perfecting setups from ground up, i love the game now.. im having
faster lap times than ICR1, faster than real life times, and race at
97%-102% ..  great game papyrus! keep it up!
