N3 and ATI Rage Pro Turbo

N3 and ATI Rage Pro Turbo

Seems to me I recall seeing something about N3 having problems with this
video card/chip.  Is there a way to fix this (drivers, patch, etc) or is a
new vid card in order?

This is in an e machines 466id tower - which has the above video "onboard".
Has anyone had any luck disabling onboard video and installing a separate
vid card - ie vodoo2 or tnt.

Thanks in advance

That's right, Nascar 3 does not support the ATI Rage Pro, which is a
damned shame because so many of us have it. Updated drivers may help
it work in the future, but right now I'm not sure any have fixed this
problem.

It does appear that Pappy is not too concerned about this problem. I wish I
could feel the same way! Even as I am typing this I'm thinking about which
video card I should buy so that I can use N3 and GPL. I hope that they don't
come out with any new titles too soon as my hardware budget can't take much
more!

That is a very simple answer.  If GPL and N3 are your current focus,
then the ONLY CHOICE should be a 3dfx card.  They are relatively cheap
and offer the BEST COMPATIBLITY WITH GPL. and work just fine speedwise
for N3.  Plus the converted Indycar2/Cart Racing tracks seem to only
work with 3dfx systems.  If you ever plan on turning right in N3, then
once again 3dfx is the way to go.
There are plenty of other reasons to choose an Nvidia card, for
QuakeIII and many new games, but for GPL and most of the Papy family of
sims, 3dfx is still the best choice.

If that's the case, a 3Dfx card might be best for you, as it supports
the largest range of API's. They're also not too expensive.

Remember that the Voodoo 4, 5 and 6 will be arriving shortly.

Visit www.3dfx.com for more information on 3Dfx products.

I finally gave up and simply removed by ATI Rage card, and installed a VooDoo 3,
I was not dissapointed with the results.

NOT TIOO EXPENSIVE???....unless I want to throw out the built in TV tuner I
have with the All-In-Wonder Pro which means a Voodoo 3500 at least and the cost
of the ATI being dumped......

The cost of 3Dfx cards can range from 70 to 700, depending on what
you want and when.

What do you have against Papyrus? They were absolutely right to dump
Rendition cards and use D3D and Glide in their latest products. Most
computers come with a good 3D accelerator these days, and if you have
one which didn't you can always buy and install a 3D card yourself.

I haven't read all of this thread so someone might already have
suggested this, but if you're fairly happy with the ATI card for
whatever you are using it for, why not buy a new or 2nd hand V2 (or 2
:-) to run alongside the ATI card, they can be had for less than 50$
these days I think, best of both worlds, and I really wish 3Dfx would
make a 3D only card again....

There's a thought, Papy has a strange way of dealing with video cards,
just about any other game will happily run on a ATI Rage PRO card in D3D
without any problems, yet Papy's sims won't....

(un)Fortunately I need my GPL fix every now and then, so I've resigned
to the fact that I need some kind of 3Dfx card in my puter at all times,
that keeps my all my Papy sims going and that's what matters to me..

Beers and cheers

Just to chime in on the topic, i have the ATI Xpert 2000, which uses
the Rage 128 chipset and N3 and GPL work fine, the frame rate
sometimes isnt great but they do work.

So inform this illiterate.....what do I do to make 2 card work together???
Are you saying I can buy a 2nd card to run in the same system?
And which one do I plug the monitor into?
Does this require some kind of dual config and rebooting to swich adaptors?
