A Technical Question for Logitech Wingman Force Users

by e » Wed, 10 Nov 1999 04:00:00

OK..here is the deal. I picked up a brand new Wingman Force today $10.
Here's the catch....just a wheel....no pedals or cables. Not even a box
or manual. My question to you pros out there is how can I get this thing
to work. I understand from all the posts that the pedals for this thing
are less than awesome anyway. So hopefully I can use my existing pedals
or put on some CH pedals.       How can I wire this thing to my game port or
USB port?. The help desk at Logitech was no help at all. They said they
can not even sell me a cable or pedals. They told me you have to buy the
whole deal. I say BS. There has to be a way.  Can somebody tell me what
my options are?  Even If I cant use the FF it is still an awesome wheel.
Surely a schematic exists somewhere out there. I assume that the port on
the side of the wheel fits a standard parallel female plug.  What's on
the other end? A gameport plug...USB??   Somebody please enlighten me
with some info. I thought for sure Logitech would have been more help.
Maybe they just want to sell me the whole package. Thanks in advance guys
...I hope I can get this thing to work.

You must not know much about the Logitech FF wheel...

Everything plugs into the pedal unit. So he is screwed until
he can but the pedals for about $130 :-)

The main problem is going to be that the pedal base acts as a power
inserter for the wheel. The power pack plugs into the pedals.
It all joins together in a block where the wheel and pedals plug into
the serial/USB port. From there, a combined power/data cable feeds the
wheel.
At the very least you'll need to put power on the correct pin(s) of
the wheel at the port on the lower right. The supply is 20 volts DC,
1.5 amps.

I wanted to e-mail you, but you didn't leave a valid address. E-mail
me if you get a chance.

Greg,
IMO the wireing in the pedals is quite straightforward-no electronics (beside
the pots).
Should be possible to DIY.

Jens

If no digramm available, I can open my pedals.

Yesterday I checked the LWFF-wiring. You can find the result on my homepage:

If anybody wants to contribute some nice diagrams, I'll put it out too.
