I am buying a new cpu for college
P3 - 450
128mb ram
13 gig HD
SB Live Value
40X Cd-Rom
15" monmitor
56k modem

My only question is the video card.

I currently only play Racing and Hockey games.
My current system has the Herc Thriller 3d 8mb pci Rendition card.

Keeping in mind that I absolutely love Rendition version of ICR2, N99, and GPL,
should I buy another Herc Thriller 3d 8mb agp card and then get a voodoo 2 card
or should I guy for a TNT
or the Voodoo 3 cards
but I don't want to spend too much as I might be a newer card in the fall. And
I might not. I just wish Rendition would release a new card.
But what should I do???
HELP ME PLEASE?????
The most I want to spend is $150 for either 1 or 2 video cards!!!!

Actually, I just replaced my 2 V2's (12megs) and Herc Thriller (8meg)AGP with a V3
3500 and so far I have had a few problems but nothing that shouldn't be able to
fix. I have someone interested in the 3 cards and a cool fan for $100. If that
falls through, I will post them for sale here....
Thanks and good luck, Matt

Put the old thriller in your new machine for now.  Upgrade to
a TNT2 later for the latest versions of GPL and NASCAR.  Given the
state of Rendition in the marketplace Sierra would have to be even
stupider than people claim they are to continue to strongly support
Rendition.  TNT2 will likely do better than V3 with new versions of
the game and refined TNT2 drivers.

Gee, I thought the Rendition Answer Man had all the answers... :)

Seriously, it depends on how badly you want to play the Papyrus
sims, particularly ICR2-3D.  Both N99 and GPL will work with the
Voodoo, so you only lose Rendition ICR2 if you go with the Voodoo.
For current speed, current compatability, and a bit of
future-proofing, I'd say the Voodoo3 would be the way to go (if you
can live with 256 color ICR2).

The Rendition card is nice (I've had one for close to a year, and a
V1000 for two years before that), but time is rapidly passing it by.
You should (IMO) only buy it if you have a compelling reason, like you
*need* ICR2-3D or have a low spec PC (original Pentium or MMX).  As
far as them producing a new card: A) I wouldn't hold my breath, and B)
considering the (not so) minor incompatabilites between the V1000 and
V2x00 chipsets, do you really think the V4400 will run V1000
software?!?
