Hello

My hard drive went belly up this past week :-(...

After getting another one, and installing NASCAR 99 from Sierra, does anyone
know what that line of code was to improve the framerate for people using the
Sierra Screamin 3D card?  Thanks!!

After the rendition executable put -4 -dma for 4bit textures and DMA
memory.

It actually defaults to using DMA mode unless you specify it in the .prf file.

Actually some people have found that using the .prf file for the -dma
and -4 commands does absolutely nothing. If I specify -4 or 4bit in the
.prf it does not work, I have to manually add it after the nr1999r.exe
file in order to get 4bit textures.

Actually the default in N1999 is 16bit graphics
I believe.  Maybe it is 8 bit.  To get the 4bit
switch to work you need to open the nr1999.prf
file in your N1999 directory and scroll down to
Rendition preferences and remove the "rem" from
the line "rem 4 bit".  I don't think you need to
add the switch to the command line either.
There is a framerate counter and other goodies
in there to play with as well.  Hope this helps.

If you mess with your bios settings you may not have to use the 4 bit
textures.
If you can find a setting called PCI Latency Timer, increase the value til
it is 32 or higher.  (up to 255 max)
This setting greatly improves the performance of Rendition boards.  But...
if you have pci soundcards, it may still some performance
from them test it and decide which settings help you the most.
