Online Racing.. MTU settings.. Buffers.. etc..????

by Pickar » Tue, 06 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I have heard a lot about ppl editing..  adjusting and generally
massaging their connection to optimise it for online racing....   ie..
GPL...

I am, aswell as most others i'm sure, very interested in this....   I've
read a bit....

But need help in knowing exactly what to do...

I have:

64 ram
Win '98

What do I need to download.. ????

What do I need to edit???   Somthing to do with the Registry??   What
program do I use... ???  what files??

There are a lot of ppl out there who would love to know these things..
and if we could all use them.....   internet racing would be gREAT....

I'm sure it won't revolusionise it...  but any improvememtn is a good
improvement  :-)

Thanx

Net Optimizer will do all the tweaks for you. All you have to do start it
then sit back and watch it tweak your connection. Visit
http://www.checkit.com/products/fsetnetoptimizer.html . Its a cool utility
and worth the 30 bucks it cost.

I good freeware program to use to accomplish setting your MTU, etc.
settings is iSpeed <http://www.hms.com/ispeed.htm>.  Read their FAQ and
instructions as you may need to upgrade your DUN & Winsock for Windows
as well.

Also read and re-read the information at the VROC sight
<http://vroc.net/tech.htm>.

One thing many folks might not know.
two actually :)
the mtu settings and stuff that are a source of net slow downs are
fixed by using the dunV1.3.  Or Win98.  Programs that change the max
mtu and other registry settings work well with older versions of the
dial-up networking but are not needed if you are using dun1.3 or have
win98.
