Very Strange GPL engine problem!

Tom,

Have you checked your fuel. I used to put in only 1 or 2 laps more than was
required
and I kept dying near the end at Monza. You should put in maybe 3 or 4 extra
laps of
fuel for a short or intermediate race to be safe. You can use up more or
less fuel then
the setup assumption depending on how hard you push the engine.

Hope that works for you.

Sounds like your running out of gas...Never set the fuel to the exact lap
amount,it never lasts under hard driving.

Yeah...You are actually out of gas. Solution??.....Add more gas.LOL......

Oh my God!  I never thought of that!  I have never had the engine
actually die, it just sputters for a half mile.  i would have guessed
that the engine would just quit when it was out of gas.   but i do run
with minimal amount of fuel.  i will up it a gallon and see what
happens.  this explains alot!

thanks a ton.  this was really bothering me.

If it's a stutter then you are running out of fuel.
The most likely reason is that you are selecting e amount of fuel indicated
for x number of laps.  If your race is 10 laps, take on 12 laps worth of
fuel.  Always add a lap or two of additional fuel.

When it's sputtering....

1) Make sure you have all smoke/fire/dust settings on at least for this
2) Hit F10 when it starts sputtering.
3) If it's smokin, your motor is toast...if it's not, your outta gas.  Take
a moment to look at the Fuel Pressure gauge at the bottom of the F10 screen
as well - it's probably extremely low (normal is 79 PSI - however, it will
run reliably all the way down to like 15 PSI or somethin)

Hmmm, Tom, sounds like a fuel problem to me?

When you say the engine is blowing, what exactly do you mean?

When the engine *blows*, it actually blows up, and bits of the engine
fly outwards, and the car loses all power immediately and coasts to a
stop with no engine sounds.

I think what you are describing is when the car runs out of fuel.

When this happens the car suddenly starts to lose power, and splutters
and hesitates, It takes longer to accelerate, and does not reach
the same top speed as before, *BUT* it does keep going, albeit at a
slightly slower pace.

Obviously, this problem will usually manifest itself at roughly the same
time during a race, eg: at the end when the fuel runs out!!!

The way to cure this is to put slightly *more* fuel in the car before
the race starts. If the race is say 20 laps, put about 22 laps worth of
fuel in the car. Remember if you crash, or go off the track, miss a
gear, spin or generally do not drive a perfect race, then you will use
more fuel than that stated anyway!!!

Hope this cures the problem for you.

8-)

I always fill a bit more than needed according to setup.
I hate that stuttering in the last lap when fighting for positions.

Actually, it will stop after about a lap and a half. No bang, no exploding
engine animation, no drama, it just all goes very quiet and your car
gracefully coasts to a standstill.
