GPL Strange new problem. Help please

by Jso » Fri, 20 Apr 2001 11:17:35

Hello.

I've been playing GPL for a while and works great on my system.  I recently
did a few minor upgrades to my PC and now have problems with GPL (GPL only).

I added new Sound Blasters speakers (should have no effect), another 64 meg
of ram (total of only 256), and lastly I upgraded to DirectX 8.0a (No.  I
don't know why I did it...).

Since doing these three things GPL is very strange.  Frame rates go up and
down randomly, sometimes freezes, and the sound goes in and out, sometimes
sounds like interference or something.

All other games are working fine.  Even other racing sims seem to be ok.

The version of GPL I have is with the latest Sierra update.  I've tried to
uninstall and re-install, even to a different drive with no luck.

My system is a Compaq with an AMD K-6 380mhz, Voodoo 3000, Windows ME,
Logitech Wingman FF and the ram shown above.

If anybody can offer suggestions, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

Joe

I had problems left and right with an SB Live and WinME. 'Down' grade to
Win98 and you will be a much happier camper.

GPL Strange new problem. Help please

Hey,

I had a similarly strange problem that was driving me nuts, my frame
rates in GPL (which was the program I'd use to test this) would jump
from 36 down to 12 each couple of seconds....
It turned out to be one of the programs in the startup menu,  that
would automatically load at startup, and was rather hidden.
Sorry I don't know the name of the Windows program that allows you to
restrict which programs load at boot time, but it is pretty easy to
research.

Anyhow, this totally fixed my problem, which beforehand had completely
stumped me.

The program is called "msconfig".

Jason.
