GPL - Strange Problem.

by Mick Bagle » Sun, 07 Apr 2002 20:34:39

Hi Guys

Has anyone experienced a similar problem or know of a work around. I have
trawled through many Web Sites and forums and cannot find an answer.

Since changing my modem whenever I cannot start up GPL more than once
without Re-booting. It freezes up on the initial screen. It doesn't seem to
matter whether GPL is in D3D, OGL, S/Ware or if GPL is Ver 1.003 or 1.201. I
have Stopped all tasks running it the background and flushed the memory all
to no avail.  has any body any thoughts.

256MB PC133SDRAM
M/B Asus CUV4X Bios 1009.006  (Via 694Z)

SBLive Value
PCTel K56Flex modem PCT789T
WinME

Totally stable !!!

When I change the modem to Intel (Ambient) HaM MD5628D-L-A

Windows reports in all cases that there are no conflicts.

I seem to recall that this was a problem for some users of GPL. Go into the
core.ini file in your GPL folder, disable the modem and see if GPL will run
without freezing up.

Make sure
disable_modem = 1
in core.ini.  This doesn't affect your modem DUN connection.

Check and see if your Modem and Video card are "sharing" an IRQ or
something.  They can be sharing and it will report no conflicts, even if
they don't like each other.  Modems and Video cards like to use the same
resources. This sounds like they are sharing but they don;t like each
other. In which case you will want to work around that problem.
