Help: GPL is acting REAL STRANGE

by doug » Mon, 28 Dec 1998 04:00:00

GPL just LOCKS up my system now...

It was working GREAT and I upgraded to Win98 and now it's toast.

Locks up on the Joystick config screen.

The Joystick (wheel) works GREAT in many other Win9x games and checks out OK
on the control panel/device mgr.

Any ideas?

Help !!  Want to show GPL off to a Sim-Nut and am being embarrassed.  Even
tried to uninstall & reinstall... no luck

Thanks,
Doug

My config:

p2-400
128mb ram
Dual Diamond Monster 3D-IIs (12mb each)
ATI All_In_Wonder_Pro_AGP_8mb 2d/3d
Win98
Glide 2.54 ??  (the beta drivers)
DX6.0
--

and replace the .NET with a .COM

Help: GPL is acting REAL STRANGE

Doug,
I am having similar problems since updrading.  I believe the directX6
drivers are the problem.  I have been switching the 3dfx driver back to the
Dx5 version to play GPL and this seems to work for now.  I posted a similar
question yesterday, and it was suggested to me to "Put version 2.53 (DX5) of
Glide2x.dll in your GPL directory and it will be
used only for GPL, while the Glide2x.dll in C:\windows\system will be used
for all other games".  I have yet to try this but it sounds promising.  I'll
let you know how it works for me.

Chris

Help: GPL is acting REAL STRANGE

I have a very similar setup and the same problem. After help from this NG I
fixed the problem. I went to the 3dfx sight and downloaded the rkv2.exe
file.  http://www.3dfx.com/software/RkV2.exe
This has older glide files that Direct X6 replaces. Just unzip the file to a
temp folder (dont install it) and then take these files and place them in
your GPL directory. (ex: C:\Program Files\Sierra\GPL\ )
glide2x.dll
glide3x.dll
glide2x.ovl

Then it should work with the old glide drivers in GPL and all other games
will use the newer drivers from the Windows directory. Also set your M3d 2
performance slider to 90Mhz, select Apply, OK and then restart W95/98. I
found that if you dont restart the computer, then it wont stay at 90mhz when
you run GPL.
Hope this works for you.
Lutrell :-)
