I believe -nocanary is to run it without the CD. It does not make the game
compatible with XP.
You have to have the beta patch for that.
I have no idea if -nocanary works with the beta patch. I don't need it
because I use Daemon Tools.

Hmm... VR wouldn't run without the -nocanary switch in Win2k and
WinXP before the beta patch.
Not necessarily, but it does fix the sound problem...
It obviously "works" with the beta patch as I still use the same
shortcut to start VR as I did before the patch ;-)
