GPL & V5500 vs. GeForce

GPL & V5500 vs. GeForce

by Tony Jeste » Thu, 27 Dec 2001 06:36:41

Ever since I replaced my Thriller 3D with a GeForce 2 I have been very
unhappy with GPL screen colors.  It's just not the same quality.
Everything else seems fine but GPL.  Is it possible to get the vibrant
colors back in GPL by adjusting the gamma?  I'm considering building a
GPL-only box with a V5500.  Or is it possible to adjust the GeForce to
get the same quality?  For GPL only, is the V5500 still the best video
card?  Thanks.

I had a lot of poor graphics, the moth eaten trees, etc. till I found
out about the 2nd version of the D3D rasterizer. I never really
noticed any major colour differences though.

Remember the early 3dfx versions of N2 and N99 were vastly inferior to the
Rendition versions.  Everyone complained about washed out colors with 3dfx.
Although I can't say What properties to adjust, the d3d settings should be
your target.  Proably increase the gamma.  Good luck.

If you get NvMAX there is a setting called "digital vibrance" which is
supposed to bring out some much enhanced colours. I haven't really
tried it much myself but others have said it's good. It just alters a
hidden nVidia setting in the registry.
