The film Grand Prix was released in 1967 in the UK. It was filmed in Cinerama.
Shortly after the release of the film a Long Playing Record was released
featuring the sounds of Graham Hill's BRM and Phil Hill's Ferrari on such
diverse circuits as Spa (original circuit) Monza, Brands Hatch and Monaco.
The film was directed by John Frankenheimer and featured the Jordan-BRM team.
It was the Jordan that crashed at Monaco. Driver Scott Stoddard (wearing
Jackie Stewart's helmet) was back in action for Brands Hatch.. he retired
following leg pains. It was Stoddard who won the US Grand Prix.
The finale had the championship go to the wire at Monza. The lead Ferrari
driver was killed following an accident on the notorious banking. Perhaps if
he had obeyed the flag marshalls he wouldn't have crashed in the first place..
the banking was closed to F1 cars in 1961 !!!
I am looking for info on any other moviesthat feature motor racing as their
backdrop. Le Mans is superb. There was also Winning (Paul Newman & Robert
Wagner) and Days of Thunder.. can anybody come up with any more.
Incidentilly I have both the video of Grand Prix and the album. I was lucky
enough to get thealbum signed by Phil Hill, John Surtees and Jack Brabham
earlier this year.
Any regular readers of the Atlas F1 Website may be familiar with my articles..
hence the need for info on motor racing movies.
Thanks
