   I've seen the movie and It's cool, especially the actual footage that
actually did happen...like the crash in the harbor at Monaco (Monte
Carlo) . That was actually Fangio taking that dip, in 1967...

Actually, that crash was staged for the movie.  The car was only a
"shell", no engine, etc, and the "driver" was dummy.  The car was
shot/catapulted by a type of compressed air "cannon".  Made an effective
crash scene.  I saw an info/documentary on one of the learning channels
here a while aback, and it was about Hollywood stunt drivers, and this
old classic movie was one of the items it talked aboutm from whence this
info comes. Can't remember who the main stunt driver was for the other
staged wreck scenes though.  FWIW...

Those with access to deep libraries should be able to find an article
in Popular Mechanics magazine from the time period with many details
and behind-the-scenes stills.  It made quite an impression on me
at the time, as did Dan Gurney's bi-monthly column.
