N2003 and XP..booting me to desktop

by Timmy Ferrel » Tue, 01 Jul 2003 09:45:01

Hi,
I've been running N2003 for sometime but I've recently upgraded to a new
P4 2.8 running XP...This is my 3rd re-install and the problem I'm having is
that I get booted out to desktop whenever I try to drive the brickyard.. so
far it's the onlt track I've seen this on ( tried about 4 or 5)..
It let's me into the pre race and garage screens but as soon as I hit the
"drive" I get a glimpse of the tarck and***pit then immediately kicks me
out....
I'm running a Dell P4 2.8
64 mb video card
1028 res with 32 bit graphics...
I should have plenty of CPU horsepower so I wouldn't thinks graphic setting
would be an issue and so far the brickyard is the only track where I've had
a problem....
It's a clean install with no downloaded cars or add-ons...
Any ideas?
Timmy

I haven't had that problem with Indy - I have the problem with Phoenix.  The
problem seems to go away after a reboot.  I have recently started using "end
it all" and this seems to help with games.

Keep us updated if you figure this out on your own,

My buddy has an athalon system, that will run Sears point and most of the
smaller tracks, but wont load dega or tona, (I dunno if he tried Indy) ....
which to me is a good feature  <grin> as I dont want to race dega or tona
anyway  LOL!

most likely he's got a corrupt or missing file.  The program loads until
it calls for that file and boom!  He could try copying the Indy track
folder over from the cd, if that is possible...I haven't even looked at the
file structure of n2k3.

I don't know why or how but it seems to be working fin e now (for the time
being)...
I did DL the track pack and installed it..I don't know if it somehow
corrected a flawed file or some such...I was in the process of checking if
those tracks would work when I tried Indianapolis again...Worked fine, even
ran about 30 laps
Who knows.. gotta love XP
Thanks,
Timmy

Seems to me, NR03 doesnt have the files on disk, as they appear on HD after
install, like 04 and the rest.  all you can do is reinstall, which has been
done several times...
My suspicion is the vid card is one of those generic Intel 3d onboard cards,
soon we will have a gf2mx to try, that ran on my machine just fine...
