When a game like Baldurs Gate can take up 3 gig on your hard disk there is no such
thing as too much!

Right here! Nothing above 128MB of RAM is the standard at the moment.
Soon we will see virtually every computer have more. There are the
exceptional cases which this is already happening - i.e. one friend of
mine recently purchased a PC with 360MB of RAM!

That still does not make it the standard.

You think we don't know that?

No, I meant Stalks!

Of course it's storks, I just didn't like his attitude to comment on
spelling mistakes. After all, there's not much of a need for formality
on the internet and especially not in Usenet.

If there were, we'd all be posting messages in HTML, with letter heads
and all!

You didn't say anything about 'standard'.  You said you would soon be seeing
them and I noted that they are already here.  The only way you aren't "seeing
them" is if you aren't paying attention.

Your friend, the one who just bought a computer with "360MB of RAM".  Ask him
what the configuration is for the memory.  Is it two 180MB chips?  Three 120MB
chips? Four 90MB chips?  Maybe it's five 72MB chips?  I'd be interested to know,
since I can't think of a combination of existing RAM chips that equals 360MB.

Apparently you didn't know it since you had to ask the question.  What other
capacity in a computer is measured in GIG?

Jeez everyone knows they come from under cabbages. Anyway I've got a PIII

I get enough ribbing for my spelling already but you must admit that mixing
stalks and storks is funny. No offence given!

Most new video card drivers will support the 3Dnow and SME instructions so some
advantage will be gained for all games. Direct X 7 will boost the perfomance even
more as it is optimised for SME. When a games code is also optimised then the
performance gain is huge.

I most certainly did!

I said: _Nothing above 128MB of RAM is the standard at the moment._

So 128MB of RAM is the _standard_ for now.

And then I said: _Soon we will see virtually every computer have
more._

Thus, soon virtually every computer will have more RAM, also as
standard!
