I would be more than pleasantly suprised if NL had the GPL physics
engine, but having read the following from the Papyrus NL FAQ, I am not
putting much hope in it:

How is this product different from NASCAR Racing 3?

The core game technology and features are very similar, but the
difference is obviously the cars and tracks, the car physics (bias ply
tires make the cars feel quite a bit different), setup differences
(screw jacks can be adjusted during pit stops) and a few rule
differences such as no pit road speed limit.

But, then the following is also on the papy.com site:

From "Features" (not mentioned in NASCAR Racing 3 Features)

Highly detailed and accurate car physics model lets you experience the
incredible power of these cars on bias ply tires.

So, it looks like we need an official answer or will just have to wait
until it's released.  But, I am still not getting my hopes up.

The main reason Papyrus did not use the GPL engine for Nascar 3 was
that it was too advanced for current PC's. The required system specs
to run at optimal performance would be higher than most can currently
afford. GPL was enough of a system hog, with even an Athlon and a
Voodoo 3 not maintaining full 36fps on a full grid. Nascar 3, despite
its lack of the GPL engine, also requires a ninja PC to run with all
details turned on at the maximum frame rate (around 31fps?).

I suppose we can't really blame Papy for opting against the GPL engine
for N3. Had they done we would probably now be complaining that the
game runs too slowly, because none of us have a powerful enough PC!

Personally, I would be surprised if Nascar Legends used the GPL
engine, for this very reason. However, whether they will prove me
wrong has yet to be seen.

If they do decide to use the GPL engine, I'll be first in line to buy
Nascar Legends, that's for sure!
