Best FF wheel?

Best FF wheel?

I currently own a Microsoft FF wheel.  I beleive I've had it since 98'.  It
still works perfectly, but I got a bit worried when I heard MS has stopped
producing it.

I've tried a few different wheels from Logitec, but I dont think they stood
up against the MS wheel.

Should I consider something else, or buy one of the last MS FF wheels in
case my old one packs up some time in the future?

I play mostly GPL and GTR2002.

Can you still get it? If it's as cheep as I've seen some places, it can't
hurt to have one sitting around. But I would try to get a red momo (old one
with leather) if I were you. I think it's end of life too but you can get
them in some countries.

I just picked up an extra one for $39.99 at bestbuy, the last one. They
changed to red grips instead of grey also...

I just come across the new Logitech FF USB wheel -- mainly for GT4
series, The gear shfiter is now a stick on the right-hand side. The
most noticable difference of the new version is the ability to turn
900 degrees. It is costy (~USD200) and I have not got my hands on it
yet. I am not sure if there would be a version for PC.

Regards.

I just got a MSFF to replace my Momo.  So far the only thing I can say is
better about the Momo is the ball bearing shaft. If he is use to the MSFF he
will hate the Momo pedals for sure.  I'm thinking about picking up one more
MSFF wheel to try adapting the MSFF pedals to the Momo.

Do what I did.  Buy another MSFFW on sale for $39, and save the old one for
parts if you ever need them :)

And (this is a true ROTFLOL moment), the "Windows XP WHQL Certified and
Approved" SideWinder software included with latest MSFFW's STILL warns that
it is designed only for Windows 98 when you run the installer.

It must be nice to own the labs and write the rules for the certification...

You'll have to shop around.  Best Buy, CompUSA, etc...  Most places are sold
out so it will take a bit of work but I suspect you could find one.

Couldnt you just plug both the MSFF and the Momo at the same time and
pick which axis you want mapped to whichever wheel pedal combo you want
in-game?  I realize some games dont use/recognize two sticks but most
sims we race do (Papy/EA/LFS).  I use the Momo with the AL perf pedals
and so far havent had any issue with any game.  Remeber though I must
still leave my Momo pedals connected so really its the same situation as
2-wheels/pedals.  Althought I dont touch the Momo pedals I guess I could
still map em as something else like look behind.  Im just not skilled
enough for that many pedals so close ;)

I have seen a tutorial for rewiring my momo wheel to use the AL pedals
natively but it's not worth the hassle for me.

I agree about the pedals. But as you say it can be fixed with adapting other
pedals, or maybe Tor moves on to high end 3 pedal kit in the future. The
momo is a far better wheel in my opinion, if you look at the wheel and not
the pedals.

I connected my old MSFF pedals to the momo right away, so I don't really
know how bad they are. :)
You are probably aware of the momo and MSFF wiring schematics on my website?

I did a search on pricewatch.com and came up with the below. I ordered it
Sunday,  it doesn't say anything about being out of stock, however I have
not got an email with a tracking number as of yet.

I ordered this one as a spare to the one I have now since they have been
discontinued. I also have an original Momo as well, but for some strange
reason I seem to like the feel of the MS wheel better, I keep going back to
it.

I don't know anything about this retailer, so I am keeping fingers crossed
..
