With the upcoming FF. patch for GPL, I'm about to give Force Feedback a try.
But then I need an FF wheel (duh!). So which one should I get? The
Thrustmaster  Force GT? The Microsoft FF wheel? The Actlabs Force RS? The
Logitech FF wheel? HELP!!! ;) Oh, and I can't afford a wheel at above
$200...

Thanx in advance! :)

I've had my Logitech FF Wheel for 2 weeks now and it is the best wheel i
have had by far.It not only looks good but feels good too.The gear shift
paddles are perfectly placed at your fingertips for easy and quick gear
changes. The 4 buttons on the front of the wheel can be mapped to any
keystrokes using the profile.I have mine set to look left, look right, clutch
and reset. Now to the pedals, they do have a short travel but amazingly you
get used to it very quickly.Again using the profile you can set the brake
and accelator up to use more or less deadzone and also more or less
sensitivity. For my money the LWFF is a great wheel.
Can't wait to try it with FF in GPL.
Sid.

The best CHEAP Force Feedback wheel you can get is a refurbished
Saitek R4 Force wheel for $75, direct from Saitek (recently reduced
from $99).  The wheel features the Microsoft FF engine (i.e.,
electrical/mechanical internals the same as the Microsoft Sidewinder
FF wheel), and it works pretty well.  Check out our review at:

Enjoy!

I would say the Actlabs Force RS USB, I just got it a couple weeks ago and I
love it, and the
guys there are some of the best I have ever delt with.  It is one sturdy wheel,
I had the TM
Nascar Pro before, the Force RS it built a lot better than it.

I've had the MSFF and Logitech wheel and kept the Logitech.
It is really great. I will even work in DOS games like ICR2.
It won't work with the DOS version of N2 or NR99 though...

Here is what I did, I went to best buy and bought the Microsoft wheel and
used it for a week. Took it back and picked up the Logitech wheel and used
it for a week then took it back and bought the MS wheel. This was the only I
could be sure what one I really liked as everyone has their own feelings on
what they want out of a wheel. For me it was the pedals, wheel, and clamping
that sold me on the Microsoft wheel.

<snip>

Yeah - this wheel seems very good, and is very moderately priced too! Does
anyone have any bad things to say about the Actlabs Force RS? Are the pedals
any good? If not, could I use my old Thrustmaster pedals with it (I have the
PDPI L4)? Oh, and what is the difference in performance between the serial
version and the USB version? Do you need any special hardware or software to
use the USB version?

Thanx everyone for your answers so far! :)

I bought a Microsoft FF but returned it cuz it started getting loose and
making noises after a few days.... I dont think plastic is good for force
feedback, i always become afraid to drive on rocks

Well, I purchased the Logitech Wingman Force, and was VERY
dissapointed (as was a great many people in this NG) with the pedals.
GPL was totally undriveable.  I went back to my ol' NASCAR
Pro......eagerly awaiting a decent FF wheel.

Buy the Logitech wheel and swap out the pedals for the pedals of your
choice. I use the CH brand, others are using their TM pedals, whatever you
feel comfortable with. The wheel is worth the little bit of effort IMO, and
it sure beats changing bungees every 8 weeks :-)

Well, I was going to visit your site, but after your endor***t of the
Saitek wheel, I feel that it probably isn't worth the effort.  You obviously
don't know what you are talking about or you get a cut of the profits from
Saitek.  Their pedals just plain suck and for you to endorse them is a major
mistake!
