1] I drive the course correctly
2] I'm driving the Mercury Cyclone
3] My best time is only in the 1:28's.....
Thanks for your input though........

1:26 isn't much of a "barrier". <VBG> 1:25 either, but I can't seem to
get below 1:24 - even following the AI's "cheat" line through the
dirt.

Practice Riverside in N3 until you can do low 1:20s, then go back to
Legends and it will seem much easier with the slower cars.

There's no rules saying you have to stay on the track. If it's faster in
REAL LIFE and in sim life cutting through the track well that's what I do.
The AI does it, the real life driver did it that way, so I will do it.
My best lap is 113.943 (1:22:778). If I use all the track I did a low
113. Just learn to control those cars and whatever you use the track or not
you will be fast. You need to have perfect control of the old Papyrus game
engine, and be one with the car. And use the Force ;)
So no it's not poor driving or unsportsmanship.

N3? Riverside? Mine don't have it...

But when it comes to comparing "hotlaps", the general rule is 2 tires
on the track surface at all times. Your 1:23 would be a darn good lap
under those restrictions.

However, I have several pics (nice and clear) of Petty and others cutting Turn 6
on two wheels...Lap, after lap, after lap...Below is one (thanks Don):

You can exchange any tracks between N3, NL and the old game engines. You
just need to have the tracks and softwares and know how (read my converter
FAQ at nascar-3.com).
If not, there is a track converter for Riverside->N3 found at
http://www.theuspits.com/

I would love to see where ANY real race driver cut the corners at
Riverside the way you, and many other do, lap after lap, and
deliberately. The AI is one thing, and shouldn't even be considered. I
mean there are MANY probs with the AI, this is one of them. Taking
"shortcuts" is cheating. Plain and simple. Do you really think that real
drivers cut the corners like that? Your kidding right. If they did, you
can sure as hell bet the BF would be flying real quick.
Come tell me when you can run under 1:26:xxx and do it PROPER. That's
when I'll be impressed with your skills. A replay would be nice too. :)
It's extremely unsportmanlike to cut corners. End of story. Either learn
to drive the track the way it was laid out, or why bother. Cutting the
exit to the esses is plain and simple, WRONG. Then using the excuse
"everybody does it, so why not me?" is SAD.
Brian
ever watched a Rally race? What's the difference. Because you go in circles
on a road course you shouldn't try to be faster when you have the
opportunity Isn't that the whole part of racing?
How do you know how much I cut the esses?
Like I said... the AI does it, the human drivers online do it, and in real
life they did cut the course. If you want to be "politically correct" ( eh
;-) ), it's your choice, but the concensus is that people have, are and
will continue to cut the course. They won't slowdown.
It's the same like cutting through the grass in the Esses at Watkins Glen.
Or cutting a little into the grass at the Nurburgring in GPL at some tight
esses
Or on the NROS cutting through the grass on the left after the carousell to
gain an extra 0.05mph.
It's the natural selection somehow. The ones with the biggest imagination,
who can push the car enough to be faster will be the winners.
Uh... just push the darn car, I can do an easy high 1:23 using ACE.
Especially turn 1 and turn 2, the most important corners since they carry
all the speed into the esses. Turn 1 is a very tricky corner. Just lift a
little and turn earlier than you think into the apex. And don't fear just
going through the little dip of sand between the pitroad and the main road.
After for Turn2, the best would be to just put 2wheels on the sand to gain
front momentum and carry the speed into the esses.
For the last turn, brake half a second after the tyre mark and trailbrake.
It will take off almost half a second out of a lap.
Finally, the corner before the long backstretch is also tricky. The radius
tightens up and you need to brake more than you think (the opposite of T1).
Brake earlier and set your car so it doesn't touch the second apex exiting
the corner (the first apex is inside of the track, the second outside).
I hope I helped you...

That pic shows NOTHING like what happens online in NL. In fact, that pic
shows petty's car merely stirring up some dust where the dirt meets the
asphalt.
Many folks in NL start at the first right turn into the esses and just
drive a straight line right up until turn 6. They end up turning laps in
the 113's and 114's because of it. I think papy should have at least put
some tire curbs along the sides of the asphalt to keep everyone honest.
Accuracy of track implementation is an honorable goal, but it's hurting
online competition.
