No

There was some.

We all heard of them.

I don't think Software Allies has any other plans for a new SODA title, or a
3dfx patch. They don't feel the need for the patch (many reasons snipped).

Me to. The only reason I have no bought this game is because it is not
D3D or preferably Glide.

When Papyrus announced the release of the N2 3dfx patch.  They also
squashed any hope of a 3dfx patch for SODA.   It runs on fast systems, but
you don't get the 3d effects.    And SODA II??  doubtful..

Sierra is amazing. They through the 3dfx crowd out the door because they
don't make a 3dfx card. What an idiotic business decision. Do they really
believe that people will buy rendition cards just to play their stuff?

You're missing out on some great action.  I enjoyed SODA on my
P166/ Matrox Millennium (sp) system, but it is much prettier on
a P2/333.  Just play in 320x200 or 640x480 with low detail.
Low detail means, you don't get the analog guages in the***pit
view and no suspension.  I even turned off sky and car textures.

Trust me, is game does not need to be "pretty" to be fun :),
although it would be great to have a 3Dfx patch.

I checked out the frame-shots at www.allies.com and the Rendition
version ( I assume thats what they used for the shots ) does not
look better than non-Rendition.  (Ok, Rendition would be faster :)

Jason.

I disagree, the rendition version on a 2x00 chip is much nicer looking.  I
have one and if you are a diehard SODA guy pickup a diamond stealth 2 for
cheap--seen used ones for 50 or 60 bucks now.

I've played online with a user that had a P-166 and I know my Rendition
version looked much better, but the speed he displayed seemed easily equal
to mine.   He didn't seem to suffer if he was experiencing low
framerates....

I just downloaded MTM2 demo and it plays great with my 3Dfx and K6-233.  I just
wish SODA ran as well even with poorer graphics.  I run SODA at 320 x 240 with
all but SKY textures and it runs around 22-24 fps.  A friends PII 300 with AGP
ATI Rage II video card can run 640 x 480 with all options on at 21-23 fps  my
K6-233 and ET6000 video card only gets about 10 fps.  Some sort of 3D
acceleration is needed even if only Direct 3D.  I can't believe that Sierra is
just going to sell it a bargain price when a 3Dfx or a Direct 3D GOLD version
could be sold at $50 a pop.

I want a 3Dfx patch.

They couldn't sell the first version for 50 bucks. That's why its 13
now. There isn't going to be any Gold version of a game that tanked,
and it's already been stated that the 3DFX patch was cancelled.

SODA is one of the best games/sims I ever played, and I doubt I'll
ever forgive Sierra for goofing it so bad with Rendition-only support.

Bastards.

lol, maybe we should include this in  the FAQ.  This is a complete
*** bullcrap.

I don't know where you took this invention that 3dfx was forgotten at
Papyrus because Sierra was making Rendition card. If you would only know
facts.

Papyrus had their Rendition license WAY before they got bought by Sierra
(because you probably don't know that Papyrus was independent not long ago).
At that date Rendition was the best 3d accelerator solution for Papyrus, and
they sticked with it for 3titles (Icr2, N2 and SODA), before making a patch
with 3dfx for N2.

Please, this was talked to death on r.a.s., so just check out Dejanews and
check out FACTS from beta testers, ppl with some relation with Papyrus,
etc...

Sorry, not interested. My hardware is perfectly capable of running
games in 640x480 when the 3Dfx chip uios utilized. I'm not going to
dumb the whole thing down to a rediculously ugly resolution just
because the SODA folks are too lazy or uninsprired to supprot the 3D
hardware that every other software developer on the planet supports.
That's just not good enough.
