F1-2000 - Thoughts - lap times - Lets race online :)

I like it... I dont worry a lot about how realistic it is compared to the
real thing.... using a puter is never going to be "just like the real thing"
anyway... The main thing for me is fun, and I`m having more fun with F1-2000
than I ever had with GP2 and F1RS...  For some reason I really enjoy driving
the car... is that because it`s kinda easy to drive compared to other sim`s"
? ...maybe... I will admit that  this is the first F1 sim I`ve used where I
truly feel I could  do a full length simulated race at a good pace and not
find a way to crash my brains out before it ends. Another thing I like is
that it seems that I have much more "feel" for what the car is doing in
F1-2000 compared to F1RS,GP2, CPR and ICR2... It`s like I`m getting more
real life seat of the pants  "driving sensations" with this sim....even if
they are not totaly correct to a real F1 car... I find they add a lot to the
fun of using this sim compared to others I`ve spent time with. The other
thing I love about F1-2000 is the TCP\IP support... it works great online
and I just cant get enough of it. The main prob I have with F1-2000 is the
AI.... I cant believe it will be this bad in the final version on store
shelves ... can it be ?..... it`s so bad that it`s almost a joke.....no it
is a joke !!!...and it`s actually pretty funny to watch..... If EA fixes the
AI I will buy this sim no questions asked. True.... it`s also a system
hog...but so was GP2 when it first came out (even more so if you ask me).

Anyone doing laps at Brazil ? ....a 1:16.526 is my best using 2 clicks less
front and rear wing from the default setup. I hear that someone got a 1:14.9
and I was just wondering what others are getting..... maybe post some setup
tips and stuff like that. Also if anyone would like to race Brazil online
respond to this thread.... maybe we can find a way to get some races going
:)

All the best,
Lorne

Hi Andre,
I must have done 150 laps before I got the 1:16.526... but I was really
getting into it because the first laps I ever did on the track were around
1:30 (lol) and I slowly got faster (hey there`s one> "slowly got faster") so
it was a lot of fun to keep improving my times. Then I hit a brick wall. Ok,
my best is now a 1:16.434 and I can sometimes do three 1:17`s in a
row....but I cant beat that 1:16.434... and I can tell ya it`s sure not for
lack of trying. I think the problem is that I cant dial in a setup to save
my life :(  I guess I`ll need to keep working at it and hope I get lucky, at
least until some kind/fast racers start posting some good setups. To answer
your question, I dont find that much of a difference in lap times when going
down 2 clicks front\rear wing (from default). I can also get 1:17`s after
going down 4 clicks (and I`ve had 1:17`s with full default settings as
well). I can feel the trade off (speed vs grip) in how the car responds, but
it always seems to equal out. Hmmm, maybe I should [raise] the wings from
default like you did and see if I can be a lot quicker through the twisty
bits.... this will be interesting. Anyway, I`m located in Toronto Canada and
I`m on cable. If you (or anyone else) would like to hook up for some online
racing just let me know :)

All the best,

F1-2000 - Thoughts - lap times - Lets race online :)

I have not been lapping at Brazil yet but will do so if theres a chance of a
little online play, I am keen to see how this plays in multi.
Have finally tweaked the game enough to get a reasonable frame rate in
races, I read a post on setting mipmap to1 which seems to have helped a lot.
My settings now :-            res 1024x768, all other on that page to max,
except max num vehicles ahead =6.  Fog , skid etc off.   Billboards, trees,
etc...  = on.
Mirrors off.

My system:    P11 233, 64 ram, V3 2000, Saitek R4 digital.

Hopefully can improve settings some more but its a real *** messing about
with em and then waiting for race to load etc...
to see how they work.
Would appreciate any settings that others have had success with to try out.
My ICQ #30047644.
