F1-2000 online?

F1-2000 online?

by Aubre » Thu, 03 Aug 2000 04:00:00

What's the current status of internet play with F1-2000?  Any good racing
happening online?  Do the F1-2000 junkies have a place to meet and race yet?
What about problems with bandwidth, latency, warping etc.?

I'm thinking about buying it, but since I've heard such awful things about
the AI (I know what SCGT is like), I'm not really interested unless there's
some good racing happening online.  I'm sure the physics model is good, and
hotlapping passes the time when you're really bored, but I'm always looking
for some good racing first and foremost.

Thanks,
Aubrey (GPL junkie)

There is an F1-2K ICQ Active list (69384455). At one point I think it was
up to about 50 members, though I have not used the list for several months
since finding some F1-2K friends in my area that are on cable/DSL. But from
what I remember, two to four 56k users could have very stable races together
if they were on the same Continent (i.e. good ping) but when you mixed up 2+
56k users with 2+ cable/DSL users from different parts of the world there
was
VERY notacible lag/warping (unplayable IMO). I often race with 6 guys on
cable/DSL from Canada & the U.S. (I`m located in Toronto Canada) and the
game runs just like offline :)

The bottom line is that it doesn`t compare to GPL but you can still have
a lot of fun if you dont mind a small grid and/or looking for people in your
area.
F1-2K also benefits from high speed connections more so than any of the
other racing games I play online. It works so well with 6 guys on cable/DSL
that
I think it could support many more... I just haven`t had the chance to get
that many
people together (although the game might have an 8 player limit anyway).

All the best,
Lorne

Speaking of which... If anyone in the Chicago area has DSL or
cable and wants to give this a try, let me know by email and
maybe we can set something up.

Oh what the heck forget the Chicago area. If you have DSL or
cable that is good enough :-)

I hold F1-2000 races after my N3 race on Wednesdays starting at 11:45pm
Eastern.  Anyone is welcome to join if you have a high-speed connection.  ICQ me
at 647521.  The turn-outs have been less than desirable, but hey it's not as
easy to find drivers like N3 or GPL.  Greg, I'll race ya sometime.

I guess we did have a good race in SCGT (I think it was last year).
I should try it again now that I have DSL. I may try to be on tonight.
If I loose I can blame it on my injury :-)
