N3 lan question

by Brian Sinclai » Mon, 11 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

Today I tried my first multiplayer lan race on N3. The problem I got was
about the time it takes for the machines, after you choose Join or Host and
hit Continue, the machines takes several minutes to present the next screen
where you have the server and everybody can join the race. It is
unbelivable.

After this, the race is fast and very fluid, no slowdowns of any kind. I
also have N2 with the bgn expansion) and N99 and never saw a behavior like
this. Just to clarify, this is a local 10baseT lan, no Internet connection
and all machines with a CDROM of the game.

Is the game looking for something? Is there a way to speed-up this? Already
tried with IPX, TCP/IP and both, with the same result.

Thanks,

Brian

There is a bug in N3 which causes it to attempt to resolve the WON
servers even for those multiplayer races in which the Internet option
was not checked.  It may take several minutes for this attempt to
timeout on machines with no active internet connection.  One way which
might try to get around this would be to remove or rename the net.cfg
file from your N3 directory.

Thanks Eric. I renamed net.cfg and it did the trick. Now it takes only a few
seconds to present the next screen.
