New Banshee Card

by Buzz O'De » Wed, 23 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I've installed a new banshee card and I'm having problems.When I put
glide2x.dll into the GPL directory the game will only run in software
mode. I choose 3dfx on the options page, exit the game, return to the
game, and the option for 3dfx has not been saved. I've reinstalled a
number of times but it's the same problem.
When I put the glide2x.dll from the Banshee fix patch into the gpl
directory I get a small gpl screen in the upper left corner of my screen
and when I move the mouse I get mouse trails. The 3dfx option stays on
in this situation.
Has anybody had similar problems? I haven't driven gpl for 4 days and
I'm starting to taste that cold turkey.

Buzz,
Get the most recent version of the Banshee patch here:
http://www.grandprix2.com/gpl/patches.htm.
The small screen in the corner is an unavoidable byproduct of the patch. The
readme file explains. You must use this patch to avoid texture corruption in
GPL if using the Banshee. The upcoming 1.1 GPL patch is supposed to fix this
problem with Banshee and Voodoo3 video cards. For now the banshee patch is a
pretty successful fix. The small menu screens aren't that big a deal. The
most recent banshee patch fixes the mouse trails problem. Good luck

I forgot to mention that it is mandatory that the screen resolution in the
game and in the Glide.ini file are the same. If they are different the game
will not run. All the information is in the readme and the Glide.ini files
that you download.

Uninstall the patch, do you still get the same behavior?  If so, try turning
off 'force triple buffering' in the 3dfx control panel as documented in the
GPL readme.txt file.

Roy,

That's the only way that you can get the Banshee based cards to work,as
Papyrus never came out with a patch for the problem. I found it to be so
bad, that I returned my Banshee card and got a plain Jane Voodoo 2 12MB
instead. But running the glide wrapper has allowed me off line to run gpl at
higher resolutions than the default. I still have to run the Glide2xver2.53
in my gpl directory to run online.

Get the Glide 2.56 drivers and you wont have to use either the wrapper or
have 2.53 in your gpl directory.

I guess I don't understand.  I put my Banshee in the computer, installed
the latest driver in it's default, started up GPL, selected 3dfx, and
played at 1024x768.  No installing extra dll's into other directories.
It works just fine.  Clearly that's not the only way to get banshee cards
to work.  They work just the same as plain jane voodoo's.

Good luck Wilbur. I'd be very surprised if you didn't develop severe texture
corruption in GPL without the Banshee patch. Mine was ok for a while too.

I have a Banshee and a buddy of mine had a Voodoo 2, when ran pretty much
the same ...that is until he yanked the Voodoo 2 out for a Voodoo 3
3000.....now I don't talk to him anymore :)

New Banshee Card

I just bought a Banshee card too. The performance compared to my old voodoo2
is astonishing.....Im getting 36FPS where i would only get 30 and the colors
and fluidity surprised me. I'm using the patch for GPL too, but its not too
inconvenient to have smaller menus is it?

FPS too)

Definately the banshee heving its problems, is a good card and was obviously
the step between voodoo2 and 3(which are basically the same design but with
slightly high performance, 2D/3D etc)Best thing about it is=Banshees are
real cheap now ;o)
