Anyone have a successful initialization string for a US Robotics 33.6
Telephony modem. I have been unsuccessful with the strings I have tried.
I get into the race but the latency reads .25 and boots me out after the
race starts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've heard *** rumours that their is a bug in the USR 33.6 modems.
They supposedly work fine for the first couple of minutes and then cut
out!!!  I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I heard it from the
tech guy at my server.

Rumour semi-confirmed.

I had to send my 33.6 back to USR.

If memory serves... They paid shipping both ways.

I use the USR 33.6 and seem to get booted in cycles. After updating the
eprom, there was no difference pertaining to Hawaii. I've tried every
modem string I can imagine. The one Dave Sparks offered would be the

baud.  Another thing that frustrates me is signing on to Hawaii and
repeatedly getting sent to their bulletin board instead of the race
scheduler. This happens about 50% of the time.

My personal experiences with USR modems is that the reason they tend to get
rumors of this sort started is because there are so many of them out there,
so if a tech support guy gets a call complaining about modem problems,
there is a pretty good chance the customer has a USR.

Statistically I believe you'll find USR products to be as reliable as any
of the consumer market modems.  Your mileage may vary ...

This happens to me also, but I dont' think it is the USR, because that
is not what I have!

It's not a USR problem, its a Papyrus problem. I was hoping someone from
there would read this and make an effort correct it.
