N4 and Graphics Cards

by Phil Le » Wed, 14 Feb 2001 04:08:55

With the impending arrival of N4 in my household I have decided that I need
to upgrade my graphics card.  At the moment I have a Voodoo3 2000 sitting
alongside a P3 800 with 256Mb RAM and an SB Live! 1024.

I have been looking at 2 cards, the Elsa Gladiac GeForce2 GTS 32Mb and the
Elsa Gladiac GeForce2 Ultra 64Mb.  Obviously the Ultra is more expensive
than the GTS but what I want to know is does it provide enough of a
performance difference to justify the price difference?

I expect N4 to become my number 2 sim alongside GPL which will always be
number 1.

Cheers

Phil

I'd go with the ULTRA 64.....run N4 in OpenGl instead of D3D.  This card
will do you well .......into a cpu upgrade which is the next thing that
should be on your list.

Phil,

If GPL is yer No. 1 sim, stick with 3Dfx (R.I.P.); the V5500 still spanks
anything else.  If *any* other sim is (or will be, before WSC) get a GeForce
DDR.
