Version 3.66 of GPL Replay Analyser released

by Martin Granbe » Thu, 25 Jan 2001 01:53:36

Hi everybody!

Exacty one year (or 366 days) ago we released the first version of GPL
Replay Analyser (or GPLRA), we thought we should celebrate this with
an "Anniversary Version". Therefore we release version 3.66 today. :)

This is the new stuff:

*Added Personal Best Laptimes Viewer, lists all best times for all
cars and all tracks. Sort of Export Records without the need to do the
html-files.
*Added visual markings for where the split times are in the trackmap.
*To make it easier for people using the Lap Chart report to do their
own reports "Lap 0" is now also listed for the race. This is the time
from session-start to when the car crosses start/finish for the first
time.
*PB Viewer, GPLRank calculator and Export Records now remembers the
last player used and defaults to that.
*Some leagues are awarding points for least laps marked "Off Track",
included stats for this in Race Report.
*Added stats for Race Laptime Consistency in Race Report.
*Added rpy->grv (groove) export. Only useful for people using GPLEA's
racktools.
*Fixed these bugs:
-Changed Murasama to Honda in a couple of places (forgot those
last time)
-Removed the blank lines in the exported reports
-Driver names in Export Records are now presented correctly on
Win NT/Win2k
-'Open most recenlty added replay file' now hopefully does
that all of the times.

/Martin and Jonas

This tools is fantastic but i still prefer GPLDump for 2 things that are
VERY
important to me  :
1) You can change size of telemetry's window, generaly i put it full
screen ;o)
2) Time diff is more precise IMO

Yep, you can't imagine the amount of suggestions and requests for
improved graph we get! :)

We haven't done it yet for several reasons. GPLDump is great for this,
why should we reinvent the wheel? And we would have to rewrite a lot of
the graph to include new features, this time can be spent on other
stuff instead.

Perhaps we will do it, but it's not a top priority ATM.

GPLDump illustrates this in a different way, that's true. Don't think
it is more precise though. It might look more precise due to the fact
that I think GPLDump interpolates Y-values for X-values not existing in
the replay (bad explanation...)

I know what you mean, some years ago i've made a Replay Analyser for ICR2 (
i never released it
because i did'nt know Internet at this times ), it was only a telemetry
graph.

And i remember that in the files you could get longitudinal position and
lateral position. So if in the game you
pass a turn at constant speed but with a trajectory outside-apex-outside
then in the telemetry when calculating
speed from ONLY longitudinal pos, then speed wasn't constant. And at this
times i din't know how to calculate
speed from longitudinal AND lateral position.

Hi,

Yes, this is true. It wasn't what I tried to explain above though, I
ment GPLDump interpolates all the graphs (not just the speed graph) -
therefore it looks smoother. I think it fills in "missing" values to
make it fit the "resolution" of 0.25 or 0.5 meters it supports. GPLRA
works with the "resolution" the values in the replay has, not a fixed
one.(probably even worse explanation! :) )

About speed: GPL Replay Analyser calculates speed from both
longitudinal and lateral position, don't think GPLDump does this. It is
very hard to calculate this without having the complete track "drawn"
and calculate the distance between the car's locations from one "tick"
to the next. You have to think about longtitude, lateral, radius of the
corner etc. We still have some rounding errors in corners (due to Papy
strangeness) but it is a lot better than simply looking at distance
from start/finish.

/Martin

Nono, i had understand with the first explanation but this one is more
precise :o)

Well, i don't know how GPLDump works but if GPLRA is more precise then
it will be a GREAT helps if We could change telemetry's window size :o))))

And there you have a reason to make a sizable telemetry window Martin!

Speaking of sizable windows. I LOVE your new "Personal Best Laps
Viewer" function. Being able to see all your times for every track
loaded is fantastic.  As is, the window is only big enough to show 14
tracks, while I have 26 loaded, it would be nice to size the window to
have them all visible at once to allow a screen capture so you could
save it to a file, or even better, include a "save to file" or "print"
command in the window. Also, not a problem really, but when loading
laps, I get about 10 error windows pop up when it comes across certain,
but not all, replays of two laps merged with SpyGirl.

More precise when it comes to speed, the rest should be the same.
We'll see about the resize... :)

Should be pretty easy, I'll look into it.

Sounds like you should try the "Export Records" feature. It has much
more info about the records and is automatically saved and can be
printed.

All should be SpyGirl laps or corrupted in some other way. If not,
mail it to me (if it isn't a large replay!).

On the "to-do" list is an option not to show these messages.

Any ideas why a replay at Snetterton would not 'play' correctly? I
tried to view it last night and the map zoomed and just sat at the
start and flasshed. or is it just me?

Thanks for the great addition!
SLG

PS anyone have a link for a file that will fix the AI at Snetterton?
