Voodoo 3500TV for N3?

Voodoo 3500TV for N3?

by Doug Bishop Jackson Mi » Tue, 01 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I have an ATI All in Wonder Pro which Pappy doesn't support in 3D.  Really
would miss the TV tuner & capture features Sooooo......

Anyone know if the Voodoo 3500 TV card would be suitable....it's a bit pricey
but it would be worth it if the 3D is supported (well).  Worth it to me anyway.

Comments or suggestions?

Thanks
Doug B.

Hmm, they do.

Grand Prix Legends has a beta OpenGL rasterizer available to download
Nascar Racing 3 and future titles will include Direct 3D acceleration, which
means it's compatible with your card.

Ive got the 3500 and it works great with all my games - GPL, N3 demo,
NFSHS, Falcon 4, Janes F/A 18 to name a few. TV and FM tuner work great
too. Im running dual monitors (other vid card is a V330) if that is of
any interest.

Actually, Frank is wrong here, your card is mentioned specifically as a
troublesome card in the readme for N3, although one of the ATI guys that
frequent the N3.discussion group over at news.simracing.com mentioned
something a while back about new drivers that would supposedly fix this
problem, can't say if they have been released though, you might want to
check out ATI's site for the latest drivers

As for your original Q, yes, the 3500 is one of the best cards you can
get for N3, and if you're also in the need of the TV stuff, it's just
about your only choice if ATI/Papy doesn't get the problems with your
card fixed, rumour has it that the ATI cards gets their colors all mixed
up for a really funky look in N3 :-)

I'm using a V3 3500 and it works great with N3, GPL, and many other sims
and games.  The TV stuff is cool too.

However, I had problems with N3 online (and other games in multiplayer
mode) due to a bug which affects TCP/IP on machines with MS-IE 5 and
WebTV (which comes with the 3500).  Frame rate in N3 would drop
dramatically during the first few minutes of being in multiplayer mode,
until it was undriveable.  The same problem occurred in Dirt Track
Racing and in GPL when I hosted.

There's an easy fix.  Details here:

  http://www.racesimcentral.net/#v3-3500

I applied this fix and now N3 and GPL run great online.  I haven't tried
DTR yet, but I'm sure it will be ok too.

....Snip....

...unSnip....

I have noticed quite a bit of talk of "overclocking" at this site.  Exactly how
is this accomplished?

Is this something I can do with my PII (333)?

Also is the PII 333 suitable for the VooDoo 3500 TV?

Could be, could be, I've been too busy agreeing with Scott and arguing
with George lately to be completely on top of things :-), but I do know
that the ATI Rage PRO cards are troublesome in N3, or at least was....
