  Eagle Woman has a faq about the LWFF and has a few recomended
settings, the forces are somewhat light according to some users so after
checking her settings out,(I mean that in the nicest way) possibly
search around for a couple of different preferences.  I know at least
two other sites have LWFF settings for gpl but I'm blank as to the
locations and names...
  anyone else?

These settings work well for me:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1                        ; Use FF if device has it
force_feedback_damping = 5.000000       ; force feedback damping
coefficientforce_feedback_latency = 0.020               ; force feedback
latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 200.000000                ; steering torque in N*in
giving max device force

If that's not enough for you, drop the number on the last line a little
lower.  You should also get the DXTweak utility so you can set your
deadzone to a lower value than 5%.  Mine's set to 0.

Hope this helps you!

Make sure that the centering spring is disabled in the profiler.

I've just started using a LWFF and was wondering what forces should be felt.
I can feel a bit of what the car is doing but do not feel kerbs etc.  The
feeling seems to be masked by a heavy feel and there is a distinct bit of
play about straight ahead (this last one is in the wheel, not GPL).  Will
the play go away with use or should I start thinking about exchanging the
unit?

The feedback tests all work and FF works with other games.

Thanks,

Ben
