LWFF & GPL Not working

by Dennis Sublet » Sun, 22 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi,
I have tried everything and cannot get this thing working...it works under
win 98 and the tests all work properly.  It functions with F1 and Motorhead,
but nothing in GPL 1.1...I have enabled FF in the core.ini file...what
gives? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank You,

Strange. Graeme Nash is having the same kind of problem with an MS FF wheel.
Check these:

1. Is core.ini placed in the GPL directory (typically c:\sierra\gpl, maybe
on another drive) and is it really called core.ini? To check this look with
Windows Explorer in the GPL directory. Go to View - Options for the plain
version or to View - Folder options - View for the active desktop version.
Make sure that "Show all files" is checked, and that "Hide file extensions
for known file types" is UNchecked. If the file is called core.ini.xxx,
select it by clicking once, press F2 and remove .xxx, press Enter.

2. In the core.ini, the ff settings must appear like this:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1
force_feedback_latency = 0.085
force_feedback_damping = 40.0
max_steering_torque = 450.0

Values are to my liking, use your own preference. What's important is that
the settings appear under the [ Joy ] header and that they do not have a
semicolon in front.

If these things don't help, contact Papyrus.

The default file is called core.ini.sample. Did you ever rename this file
to core.ini? Or did you always have a core.ini. There is a w98 setting
to Hide the extensions of files. By default you may not have seen that
the filename is really core.ini.sample. IMHO they would have done better
to name that file core.sample.
