OT: ADSL confusion

Well I got our ADSL modem from Bell Atlantic 2-3 weeks ago and our service
was supposed to start today at 6:00pm. Well, it doesn't work! The Activity
light flashes sometimes, but the Link light never turns on. We're switching
from dial-up and using Windows NT, using the old P 200 MMX since it's more
reliable. My dad tried deleting all the dial-up stuff, we installed
everything, and it just won't connect. I heard about lots of these problems,
but I can't look them up either because my dial-up ISP just switched to a
new news server! So, can anyone give me some help? I can't switch because
it's either Bell, or Telocity, which I heard was REALLY bad. (I checked on
DSL Reports and these are the only 2 in my area)

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,
Alex

I don't know.  I've got Telocity and am pretty happy with it so far.
Only *** I've had with them was one Saturday it dropped service for
about three hours just as I finished qualifying for the regular GPL F2
club race.  I attribute that to some bozo at BellSouth's switching
office for screwing something up more than for Telocity.

What did***me off is that I spent 2-1/2 hours on hold on their 800
support line during that period of time which led me to conclude that
weekend tech support is a fantasy.  I will say that the one time I
called tech support on a weekday morning I got right through to an
extremely knowledgable fellow who was tremendously helpful in fine
tuning my system for outstanding data rates.

Once I got over the annoyance of that one Saturday, I've been quite
pleased with the service.

Why exactly don't you ask Bell Atlantic about this? This is one of
their tech support concerns.

I have telocity and as long as I don't need their tech support
the service has been fine.

Maybe I can answer my own question :-0 The reason why you
do not ask Bell Atlantic is because they may be clueless. My
DSL connection crapped out last night. I called tech support
for Rythems last night and everyone guarranteed that everything
was fine on their end. Expect that they couldn't ping my DSL
modem. So they are supposedly sending someone out today to
replace it.

So I got up this morning and turned the computer on just to see
and it is working fine. Ovbiously something was hosed on their
end and they were clueless as to what or why...

Yep DSL is awesome... When it works. I downloaded 17MB worth
of IE 5.01 in just a few minutes. You can't beat the speed.
