N2 Fuel Use

by Jim Keyto » Mon, 13 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

What does N2 use to figure fuel use....engine rpm, speed of veh, distance
gone by veh...or what. Or is it more complicated?

The reason I ask is....say on yellow laps, if I use third gear vice second
gear will I save fuel.

Thanks,

Jim

It's a function of engine RPM and throttle position. More RPM, more
fuel; more loud pedal, more fuel.

Yes you will. (But you don't use much fuel under caution anyway...)

All these factors apply.  If you look at your F3 screen (fuel mileage)
while under caution, change gears and look at the mileage.  I usually
run in second gear at the short tracks, and third at the superspeedways.
Yes, it does save fuel in a higher gear.

I run cautions in 4th for that reason.  Okay, so it hasn't won me a
race yet :), but it *does* save fuel, at least by my accounting :)

See ya...
