N4 replay memory settings

by St » Wed, 31 Oct 2001 04:27:17

Hi all,

I have a server that I use for hosting N4 and would like a number
for the core.ini file that will allocate enough memory to record a 55%
race. Also will the memory allotment effect the performance of my
server which typically hosts races of 20 max           Thanks Steve

Run a 55% race off-line against your AI (20 cars) at a few tracks using the
same settings for your on-line races and save the replay.  You'll get a good
indication of how large the replays are and can set the size accordingly.

We ran a few 60% races on a T1, the most drivers was at Daytona, 6-7 if I
recall
The replay size was 35mb but that included a 25 min warmup
With the patch you can clear each session so that, in the end, only the race
is saved
But there was no degradation/warping from the replay size
Our server is an 800Mhz CPU/512Mb ram

Our server memory is set to 150000 in the core.ini. Races with 15-20
drivers will dramatically increase your replay size. For 50% races
ours are generally in the 100-120 mb range. But this includes a 90 min
practice session as well. As long as you have enough ram in your
machine you shouldn't see a performance hit.
