I'm getting a quick frame stutter as I enter a corner in N4 and would
like to try the Virtual Memory (Swap File) fix.. Here are the specs..

Win98SE; 512MB RAM; GF2 64MB GTS Pro.

-Virtual Memory Settings-
Hard disk: C:\25634 MB Free
Minimum:
Maximum:

What should I enter in the Min and Max lines??
TIA for opinions, Mick

You do realize that you are using a 10GB swap file with that setting?

I use 1.5x amount of memory. You could try 2x
Try 768 or 1240 NOT 10240
I have 256 RAM so I use 384 in max and min for a 384MB swap file.

Add this line in your System.ini file to force win98 to use ram instead
of virtual:

[386Enh]
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

Never heard of that one before, could be worth some investigating. It
always frustrates me how windows uses all the physical RAM it can but
never frees it up when apps are closed. Thanks for the tip.

if you have 512 mb
then the game     WOULD NOT EVEN touch
the virtual memory.

if you dont believe, try setting both max and min to
ZERO.
and run the game.

I think there is something else wrong
you did not mention your CPU.??

Other System Specs: AMD T-Bird 1GHz w/ Alpha 6035 HS & Fan; Abit
KT7-Raid; ATA-100 IBM Deskstar 30G; SBLive x-Gamer 5.1; GF2 64MB GTS Pro
w/ blue orb HS&fan on the chip; 2 extra Sunon case fans.

Right now I only have 256MB, but another 256MB DIMM is on it's way from
Crucial, so I posted asking for 512MB settings.. Maybe the problem will
go away just by adding the other DIMM?? (RAM Specs: Crucial (2x) 256MB
168-pin DIMMS 32Mx64 SDRAM PC133 Cas 2)

Your frame stutter is NOT from the virtual memory settings, it is most
likely a graphical setup issue. I have a slower system than you and
have no probs. Most likely it's in the "turn detail on at..., turn off
at ...." settings, and the sim is switching between graphic levels.

Upgrading to 512mb won't make a hell of a lot of difference in N4, but
since RAM is so cheap, why not? :D

Try disabling AGP 4x and see if that helps things.

Warning to all: DO NOT USE THIS SETTING!!!

Tried it myself, it killed Win98 completely. It refused to use the
swap file or unload proggies from RAM. Then you get "out of memory"
errors continually.

Tried to remove the line from system.ini, but windows had changed a
LOT of other settings and I couldn't recover it. So know I'm on win
2000 instead :D
