Virtual Memory Settings for N4

I've seen some posts about setting up your virtual memory for N4 so that
the Min and Max are the same - double the RAM of the computer. But the
numbers in the settings when I change to manual don't make sense. What
should the settings be for Min & Max if I have 64mb of RAM?

Thanks in advance

Min128 and max 128 are for you. This will make a pernament swap file. Defrag
the Hard Drive BEFORE doing this!

Why should you do this?

It really doesn't help anything.....there are no definite answers on how big
you should set the swap file. I have 256MB ram and the swap is 600MB.

Two schools of thought: originally, it was thought that Win9x (don't know
abt. Me) didn't recognize a swap file larger than 256Mb, but the flight-sim
wonks suggested a permanent s.f. of 600 (or more!) Mb.  I tried it & sure
enuf, it works like a sum***!  Re-loads are *much* faster, but initial
loads show little improvement (it's basically a fast disk cache; making it
permanent speed it up even more).  You should also add the line
"ConservativeSwapfileUseage=1" in the [386Enh] stanza of yer system.ini
file.  To take advantage of all this, you should really have an ATA 100 or
133 (bus speed) HD and header on yer mobo.  (You need a special cable, too.)

Don't need a special cable if you have a Asus Cusl2 motherboard :-)

I find that there's a lot less disk thrashing if you have a fix value.
If you don't put a fix value, over a period of time (after an hour of
playing for example), the HD is being access for a fraction of a sec and
it can get really annoying when your game starts stuttering.

If the max and min sizes are the same, Windows won't mindlessly keep
trying to do "housekeeping" and shrink the damned thing down towards
the minimum size at really inconvenient times.  That takes a bunch of
CPU cycles away from sims like GPL and N4 who need every cycle they
can get their hands on.

The size is really whatever you feel like setting it for.  Twice Ram
size is a good starting place as it's not overlarge, yet large enough
that it probably won't be too small for most situations.

I'll do that but so far I didn't notice any slowdowns... I do think that
there might be a memory leak since fps drop from high 40's to low 30's after
a 70 laps at Glen...
