RASCAR Sears Point - stupid track...

Sheesh - I'm struggling to put 2 laps together.  I run a 1:32 something in
practice - the next car up runs a 1:28 something.  I'm 4 seconds slower than
the next car!  Ed runs a 1:22, but doesn't think he's fast enough to race, so
he quit.  Then Achim runs a 1:18!!!  After seeing that, *I* bail - it won't be
any fun getting lapped 15 times(or more) in a 45 lap race.
I hope you guys enjoy the race...

well I did a 1:17 shortly after that - and bailed as well.

Apologies to all for leaving, and please don't misunderstand this as
arrogance.

I left because I know from experience (and saw it during the practice as
well - sorry Jan) that when the speed diff is this big it is so difficult to
avoid accidents in traffic, simply because both drivers don't expect the
speed to differ like that. It becomes so difficult to handle.

I think it's more fun for you to not have a raving menace plough through the
field from behind ;-)

My transmission failed after just eight laps or so. Very strange. First time
I've *ever* had a transmission failure.

Looked like a  good race was going on between Fredrickson, John and Ginger.

Next week is Daytona which should be competitive and a lot of fun.

Dang....missed Sears today, WG was a mess and I'll be away on vacation
next weekend, that's 3 out of the 4 tracks I was planning to make sure I
didn't miss, the 4th was Dega of course and we all know how that went
:-)

Road Courses and SS's.....anyone see anything wrong with this picture ?

I've always found Papy's default <fast> setup to be _very_ prone to
mechanical failure at Sears. Using my own the car is much less fragile. I
can't explain why, but that's how it is.

RASCAR Sears Point - stupid track...

Eldred,

HALF the field was 6 laps or more down.  You should not have left!

I lost second gear around lap 19, for no particular reason I can think of.
It all went to hell from there.

That screwed up my braking points, shifting points, turning points, drifts,
and overall threw my brain into a complete tail spin.  It was like I was at
a totally different track that I didn't just spend practicing for over 20
hours preparing for this race :(

Then I got a little damage when someone spun in front of me (no biggie), and
the car just turned into a total little *** from that point on.  Now, I
was fighting a evil car, and an evil track, that totally changed on me
because of the loss of 2nd gear.

I came out 7th, and I'm damned glad to have it :)

Luckily, I was fortunate and did a pretty darned good job of staying out of
everyone's way and letting them by.

But I never quit, and got a 7th place out of it :)

No matter HOW bad it is, never quit!

I did have to park it on the white-flag lap because Mr. Evil Car went
squirelly on me and I caught  tire barrier and took out the motor.

Frankly, I'm happy :)  Until the gear thing, I was running a really nice
race, no off-courses, no incidents, no trouble.  In fact, I didn't even have
any off-courses until much further on when I got that damage, and the car
handling went totally away.

Thank god it's back to oval's next week!

NICE WIN JOE!

Actually, it turned out being a very well behaved race, and there were speed
differences FAR more than there was during qualifying.

Random Damage?  Does that still exist in NR2002 ?

Can we turn that ***off ?

I never doubted that it would be a well behaved race. But the speed diff was
really difficult to handle even in practice. It's not that I'm not used to
it in a way, but still, I think it was the right decision to leave. Just
look at Eldred's reaction - that was exactly what I wanted to avoid by
leaving.

It *was* a good race, although I thought I was ultimately the faster car
because I had no trouble keeping up or even catching them after I made a
minor error in turn 10.

I had been in the lead for a few laps when my *** lost 2nd gear as I
came out of turn 11 at the end of lap 18.  What a pain in the ass to
drive that track wihtout a 2nd gear...

I ended up 2nd but honestly felt that I could have won if my *** had
held together.

In fact, I think there were only 3 or 4 cars on the lead lap at the end.

I did too, but I still managed to turn 1:22's and 1:23's consistently.

I think it takes a lot more skill to be faster than everyone else and be
able to handle it well. You should have stayed so we could all see if
you could pass safely (yet with apparent abandon).

I feel like an idiot. I forgot to start my Game Commander for this race.
I crashed after the chute, when I went to press the f3 key to check my fuel.
I went right into the end of a guardrail/haybale. I was in 7th and catching
2-3 cars ahead of me.
BTW, apologies  to Joon Li (I think that's the name) I squeezed under you at
the hairpin, I think I forced you off, but I can't tell without seeing the
replay. I thought it was a legit pass.
Someone  said after 50 laps or so, you'll get a feel for the track. They
were right. I got better, and took about 5 seconds off my previous best.

Achim,Eldred, and Ed should've stayed. We all could've benefited from the
driving skills we could've learned.
