N2 needs a new Sears Point track update

The first Nascar testing on the new reconfigured Sears Point Raceway
got underway today. They made a bypass of turn 5 & 6 and now go from
turn 4 directly to turn 7. They call this part the "Chute" because its a
fast
drop down the hill to 7. The change was made so the spectators could
have a better view of the cars.
Only a handful of teams came out to test. Its hard to tell who's who
without paint on some of the cars.
Jeff Gordon
Johnny Benson
Chad Little
Joe Nemechek
Rusty Wallace
Jerry Nedeau

Most of the lap times were in the 1:12's. Thats about 26 seconds quicker
than
on the old track.
I guess N3 will have the new track layout.

The City of Long Beach poured the concrete for the sidewalk that
parallels the new Pacific Aquarium, effectively eliminating turn-1.
The 1998 CART event will have the track go-around the aquarium (making
a left at turn-1, instead of the old right-turn), and will increase
the length of the track to 2-miles.

So it would appear that both N3 (and the proposed CART-2000?<g>) will
need a face...er...track_lift.  =)

Cheers!

Mark.....
That would be the 1999 LB CART event ;-)

Well, I didn't see turn1 as a left-turn in both CART and Atlantic races
(Hopefully I wasn't under the influence of too many French Canadian Beers
!).

So what your saying is that instead of the traditional :

                       _____
                       |
                       |
                  __|
Turn1--> |
                 |

It will be :

             _________
            |
            |
            |
            |__
                 |<---Turn1
                 |

Is this all ok ? wrong ? If true, this would be not more safer for cars
coming out of the pits, since they would normally go right into the track at
the braking zone. Oh and I hope this ASCI is well rendered on other's Mail
readers.

Ooops!...So right you are!  ~=P

That's about the size of it...Except, after viewing the mess over there
today, I think it'll be closer to this:

       _______________
      /               \_______   X <---GTE Building
     /                        \
    /                  . . .   \
   |    Old Track---> .      . |
   |        _____  . .         |
    \______/     |\<---Turn1   |
                 | \           |
                 | |           |
         Pits--->| |           |
                 | |           |

Dunno...looked OK to me.  ;)

Cheers!
