N2 - Sears Point Qualifying, how fast are you?

by Matt Howel » Mon, 05 May 1997 04:00:00

Hi everyone, I've been practicing qualifying at Sears Point and finally
got the pole at 100% simulation mode. (89.345 mph or 101.538 seconds)
There was still definitely room for improvment, as I screwed up big time
coming through turn ? (the 90 degree turn right before the straight that
has the pit entrance) I'm using a TH Mark II FCS joystick so I don't if
that's the problem. What do you guys run there? BTW, this was with Pekka
Heino's qual setup.(Thanks!). I'd love to turn a lap like Mark Martin
did Friday!

I'm posting the replay in alt.binaries.simulators.autos if anyone wants
to check it out and give some feedback.

Hell...I've been lucky to just break 80mph...that's been my best LAP to
date.
Road courses are my achilles heel, along with short tracks.  I can never
seem
to keep up, while at Tally I blow the AI away.

My best qual lap with that particular setup is 90,5xx in 70 degrees
and no wind. Needless to say the setup is by no means perfect for
Sears Point.

In my opinion you'd probably achieve better times with a wheel and
pedals as your controls.

Hey Pekka!

I've been playing a little around with your setups. ( well maybe a tad more
than little..)
I can run in the high 90's in race trim and my best qualifying lap is a
91.747 (set in CLOWDY weather 70 degrees)

Drop me a line and I'll tell you the details.....

My best qual speed is 91.134 or 1.39.545secs, and I also see lots of
room for improvement. Turn 11 is alittle tricky, try not to take the
gentle left-hander before 11 too wide, as that line will have you
 taking 11 too sharp.
I am running a T2 & pedals but I don't see that making much difference
on lap times. Practice, practice and practice some more. Once you get
the braking and acceleration points right, your speeds will improve.
I thought that Sears Point in N2 would be similar to N1 but I was
mistaken. It seems to me that the car brakes much faster in N1 than N2.
My speeds in N1 were in the high 94's so it seems that I have alot of
 work to do in N2.
