steering smoothing in GPL?

HI All

Is there any way  to make steering in GPL little "smoother"? I mean
i have little worn steering potentiometer in my wheel and
now steering jumps little randomly when driving. GPL is only
game which have this problem, CMR2 for example works still fine.
I have Win98 and Thrustmaster sprint wheel, not using TM's
drivers but instead just normal 4 axes, 4 button joystick.
TM's drivers do not allow separate gas/brake so that reason
not using those drivers.

hehe.. I may be wrong but I'd imagine that that's one thing that
separates a Sim from a Game.  A game will help you with everything including
steering, where as a Sim you don't have that help.  Also, there is no such
thing as "a little worn".  A pot is either good or bad.

I wonder how right or wrong I am(?)

The pot may not be worn, but can be plain dirty. There are cleaning
liquids for pots available, using those might help.

Tuomas, you can try to "hide" it a little with the Steering Linearity
slider.
But you can better clean the pot.

Michael, you are right.
GPL is the best SIM.

Get some WD40 or tv tuner cleaner and spray it inside the pot.  With the
cheaper pots you have to do this often, like every couple weeks.  I have
seen some sealed pots that lack the slot that allows you to spray inside
them, but these also seem to be of higher quality and don't need cleaning.

Actually, Nascar Heat has a nice little software gizmo for smoothing and
super-sampling to calm down jittery controllers.   Don't know about other
mfgr's, but Logitech's older wheels had a similar analog to digital
converter built onboard to do the same thing.  I rather like the idea of the
tweakable setup in NH, myself, as the Logitech's response always felt a bit
dead, if accurate.

heehee I've had store clerks scream that too.  I suppose some wheels'
plastic is attacked by wd40, but not my trusty T2.

Tuner cleaner from Radio Shack I find the best for me, a cleaning will last
quite some time.

Some people do nothing wrong.
The problem is, they do nothing.
And THAT is wrong.

The problem is wd40 can build up , like grime, and attract dust and dirt.
Tuner cleaner gets the job down and basically evaporates.
