MS Force Feedback Wheel: Pedals won't work!

by Harrie Oostin » Thu, 19 Apr 2001 00:18:51

Hello,

I have encounterd a strange problem with the installation of a Microsoft
Sidwinder Force Feedback Wheel (USB) of a nephew of mine. When I test the
wheel via Control Panel->Game Controllers->Properties everything works fine
including both pedals. In every game I tried the pedals won't work at all
(not in separate and not in combined mode). The wheel and the buttons work
ok. It's a Windows 98 computer using DirectX 8.0a. Previously a Logitech
Joystick was installed (I completely removed it though). When I install the
wheel at my own computer (Windows ME and DirectX 8.0a) everything's OK.

It looks like the information of the Y-Axis is killed by the software
somewhere. It's certainly no hardware error (the diag works and on my
computer also).

Please help.

Greetings, Harrie

Julian,

Thanks for your answer. I'll look into it. What puzzles me though is that it
does work via the sidewinder profiler software so in that case the USB
connection does work...

There is an obscure option to map the Y axis to the X axis (or something
like that).  Did this get enabled by accident ?

Larry,

I don't know that obscure option, perhaps you refer to the combined mode
(Y-axis stands for both pedals) or separate mode (Y-axis for one pedal,
R-axis for the other). I tried both options and nope!
