Rendition card inquirey

by Kim Pric » Wed, 08 Mar 2000 04:00:00

So I picked up this second-hand 8 Meg video card today...it's a Creative
Labs 3D Blaster (PCI), model # CT6240. It's got a Rendition V1000E chip
on it. I'm wondering...is this the Rendition chip that can be used for
GPL, Cart Racing etc.? I'm running a Voodoo 2 and a Creative Labs
Graphics Blaster Extreme at the moment. Will I be able to get the
Rendition textures from CART and the performance boost mentioned in
"Four Wheel Drift" if I install the Rendition card? And how do I tell
GPL to use it and not the Voodoo2? Is there a particular set of drivers
I'll need?

All replies appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure that card came as 4 meg only.  Yes, it can run the
Rendition versions of ICR2/CART Racing and GPL (as well as NR2 & NR99
& SODA Off Road Racing [an excellent, under-rated title]).
Unfortunately, it's the first generation of Rendition cards (late '96
vintage).  While it will run ICR2/CART (and the other titles) well,
but you'll probably get better performance in the more
graphics-intensive GPL with the Voodoo2.

When you run GPL, you can select the video driver for GPL to use
(Options/Graphics/3D Accelerator).

Check the CL site or Rendition (www.rendition.com) for V1000
drivers.  Also check on the web to see if the following Rendition fan
sites are still active:
http://www.bjorn3d.com/
http://rendition.dimension3d.com/

   Good luck.

Thanks Jeff! You're a gentleman and a scholar. I'll let you know if the card
turns out to be an 8 Meg (as marked on it at the shop) or a 4 Meg as you
suggest.

J.P.

Get in touch with me.  I had (i repeat had) a rendition card, but someone
thought it would be nice to relieve me of my computer, tv, stereo, and music
CD's.  I have the software bundle that came with the Rendition Card (IRC2,
Quake, A fighting game like Mortal Combat), but no rendition card.  They're
your's if it doen't cost too much to ship them.
