GPL Racer plays Viper Racing...

Hi,
Here is Thompa lurking his way into your computers again!

Maybee youve seen me online in GPL sometimes, if so
you know that im a pretty decent GPL driver, if i may say
so myself :)

Anyway, i have been fortunate enough to have been playing
a copy of Viper Racing for quite some time now. I say fortunate
because I really didnt think i would be playing any game other
that GPL for a very loong time, but Viper showed me different.

The driving model in Viper is equal to GPL! yup you heard me
right, its defenetly that good!
The Viper you start out with in the game is a "normal" viper,
its very heavy and it "lacks" horsepower...(atleast compared to
the Viper you get later in the game)...but after you do some
upgrades you really start to fly down the tracks with a great
sence of control.

I had my father over the other day, and he have never played a
racing game on a computer before, and i started Viper up and
let him take control over my T2 and of he went....After a few laps
he was powersliding thru corners, correcting under/overstear and
really had a ball! I did put the game in arcade mode, but even that
is pretty much a handful if you drive hard. He left my appartment mubeling
something about bying a steeringwheel for his girlfriens computer ;D
(notice, my father is 55 years young)

The thing is, if you think GPL is a tad to difficoult and still want a game
that has a realistic driving-model, Viper is your game!
If you dontt think GPL is to difficoult, Viper is your game to!

Now, it has a few big "flaws"...i wont go into those, since im only refering
to the driving-model here, but all in all its defenetly a must by for the
casual
simmer, or the *** simmer. Even if it only is for the multiplayer
feature,
whitch works even better than GPL in terms of "lag" and "Warping".

Im doing 1 28s at monza and im in love with GPL.....so I wouldnt give
this "viper babe" much of GPL:s valuble time if it wasnt worth it :)

Those guys at MGI have really pulled of an "outsider" here, and I sure hope
they will continue to support this "could have been a *** sim but right
now
you must settle for a *** drivingmodel -sim".
This is looking real good guys!

snip
I agree. I think VR might be missing some of the "feel" that GPL
has and may be too styleized graphically to be considered a "true"
sim.
That having been said, I have to say that VR will be excellent for
multiplayer racing. You DO have to "race" the car to be fast. By that
I mean you can't just go out and flog the car and be competitive. I
also think it will be good for online racing because it is basically a
"spec" series so, the best driver with the best setup wins. Isn't that
what racing is about? My bud and I tried it over the net (tcp/ip) with
56K connections and it was silky smooth. Another thing I noticed is
that you can see whats happening in front of you at a greater distance
than in other sims. This helps you to anticipate where to go if there
is a pile up or a spin in front of you. The "sensation of speed" is a
little anemic and takes some getting use to but the control and the
physics are very good. BTW- I ran it on a P166mmx(oc to 225) with a
StealthII vid. 64 meg ram so it doesn't take a high horsepower system
to enjoy it.
I don't want to get in to comparing VR to GPL (or any other sim for
that matter). GPL is divine. It simulates a specific series at a
specific point in time. VR is it's own entity and will be excellent
for people who want to go wheel to wheel online. Let's get some people
together and try it. VROC for Viper Racing?

GPL punditts may start your flame now>>

Is that realistic?  Don't tell Chrysler...they won't license it again. :)
