N2002 chat question

by GLege » Thu, 14 Mar 2002 12:17:57

During online racing, I noticed guys chatting during the race (various text
at the top of the screen).  I'm wondering how are these guys doing this
without losing control of the car.  Are they using some sort of speech
recognition, or what?

Also the normal text like "exiting pit, pass high", this text is used by
using the number keys, I'm wondering if most guys just hit the keys for this
while racing, or have it set up in such a way that they use something else,
like maybe buttons on a controller to instantly send the message?

thanks in advance

You can modify those auto chat messages to whatever you want them to say,
and yes you can even map them into buttons on a wheel if the wheel's
software allow it, like the Momo for instance.
Even then, some guys seem to be able to type while racing, danged if I can
do it though, it's all I can do to hit the autochat keys.

Don,

Thanks for the reply.  I've just joined a league for Nascar racing 2002.
I'm currently using the Logitech Formula Force wheel.  I noticed you
mentioned the Momo wheel.  Do you own this wheel, and are you familiar with
the previous Formula Force wheel?  The reason why I'm asking is because I'm
interested in upgrading to the Momo, and was wondering if you think its
worth spending the money to upgrade?

thanks
Gary

Some guys can type and drive well.

Some guys have wheels with lots of buttons that they map to their common
autochats.

*most* guys use Game Commander....

http://www.gamecommander.com/

I have some 30 scripts for N2002 in Game Commander. :-)

Paul, thanks for the reply.  Would you happen to have a copy of the original
Game Commander?  The reason why I ask is, I used to have it on some old disc
a long time ago.  I used to use this program, but haven't for some time.  I
purchased the Game Commander 2 Upgrade last March, but I need the original
to use the upgrade.  I'd like to use the program again for N2002, but I
can't without the original.  In the mean time, I will be looking for the
original GC.

thanks

for the autochats and pit boards you can also use Game Commander, its a voice program that works very well.

Paul, disregard the last post, I emailed the Game Commander site, and they
fixed me up.
I do though would like to ask if you would let me use the 30 scripts your
talking about.  I'm just getting into this, and would like to look at what
you have, that's if you don't mind.  If you do, I understand.
thanks
Gary

Well, I think it is, and I think you can get the Momo for about 150 bucks
through NewEgg right now, I paid 200 at Best Buy and still think it is worth
it. I use it now for both racing N2002 online and racing F12001 offline.
I also have a TSW2 that I have been using for app 3 years, and have it set
aside now as a backup. I love the TSW2 , don't get me wrong, but I am really
liking the FF wheel, and the Momo is serving me well so far.
I am only a little familiar with the previous Logitech FF wheel, I bought
one for my niece for Christmas and only ran a few laps with it at her place,
the Momo seems to be more solidly built and the steering feels better to me.
Plus it looks cool.

Gary,  I started with the scripts that GC has preinstalled for Nascar, and
added my own as I went.  Of course I have scripts that fire my autochats,
plus I have many scripts that fire other text messages.  Since I am a N2002
league admin, I have some scripts which are for my duties as an admin, and
not needed by others.

Here's part of the text from my GC script for N2002, to give you an idea of
what I use it for......... {{I have edited out some scripts}}
