Don't know about changing the number of laps. I think it is randomly
determined by the game engine. You can change the speed of the pace
car in the track.ini file, but I've never tried changing it to see if
it actually works. The setting is "pace_speed_limit_mph = " in the [
ai_track ] section in N4. I don't have NR2002 handy, but I imagine it
is the same there.
Encourage the drivers in your league to practice as much as possible,
not only offline, but especially online with other league members.
If you have more than about 10 drivers, you might try splitting the
field up and run a couple of heat races, then the main event. Less
cars on the track will tend to reduce the frequency of yellows.
Or, you can try to get by without yellows until your members have
gained some experience. Make sure everyone knows how to wreck: "if
you spin, both feet in." i.e. disengage the clutch and lock up the
brakes. A spinning car will behave much more predictably when the
driver does this, and it lets other folks have a better chance of
avoiding trouble. Then after the spinning car has come to a stop,
mandate that the driver MUST call a tow truck. This gets crippled
cars out of the way, and also gives the driver a chance to reflect on
what they just did wrong.
