GPL - New router problems

by pjgt.. » Wed, 15 Jan 2003 03:58:45

I've just installed (two days ago) a new router on my home pc (Belkin
Cable/DSL gateway router).

The router works fine, and my home LAN (two pc's linked via the router)
works fine.

However, I now do not seem able to host GPL races via VROC. I can join
races via VROC ok (I tried last night) and GPL offline is working fine.

I could host VROC races *before* installing the router, so I assume its
got something to do with that?

Anyone got any ideas about why I can't host races, or any settings (GPL
core.ini or hardware) that I may need to adjust?

I can host and join GPL races on my LAN via the router.

If its helps this is using win98se on both pc's and I have a cable
internet (600kb/128kb) connection. And using latest versions of GPL (v1.2)
and VROC (v2.1.0.0)

Thanx....

Peter,

I'm using a Linksys router, but I'm assuming that they all work about
the same.  You need to move your computer out from behind the routers
firewall. With my router it's called the DMZ zone.  Check your manual for
the proper way of doing this.

You need to forward the following ports in your router, to the IP of the PC
that is the host.
You might not be able to join the server through WinVROC yourself, but you
can always join it over the LAN IP through GPL. Everyone else will be able
to join throug WinVROC.

Not a good idea, esp. on a Windows machine, as this will open
up all ports on your server. Better follow Karsten's
suggestions in his post and enable port forwarding on the ports
that GPL / VROC require.

Cheers & good luck,

I hope you mean just temporarily for racing purposes.  If you move it out from behind the firewall,
whats the sense of having the firewall?
