I can't even get GPL running on XP. See the GPL splash screen then it drops
to the desktop. Are you using NTFS or FAT32? I think my problem is relatd to
NTFS. If I didn't have this problem I could see how GPL runs on the Radeon
8500 and maybe help you out.
I have GPL running on XP, ATi Radeon 32 DDR full resolution, all options on
and never a problem. If you're unlucky enough to start the game and see an
all black speedo with a big fat white needle then the ATi drivers weren't
installed correctly... took me a day or two to figure that one out.
Dale.
Also, I just found the followingon the ATI web site:
The RADEON driver included with Windows XP does NOT support OpenGL. This
would explain why I was having issues. A new driver is available on the
Radeon site. I'm going to wait a bit before I install the new Radeon
driver....
For STP - I'm very definietly running NTFS and it is working fine.
Let's see if we can figure out why you are dropping out. There is
apparantly a phase in GPL startup when the app screws around with the video
card (maybe the audio card too). You can disable it talking to the video
card by going into the app.ini file in the GPL directory and set
lastRasterizerDLL = softdll.dll. Then start GPL. If the sim now starts,
then you know something is going on with the video card.
To edit the app.ini, go to start, run, notepad. Then file, open, and browse
to the GPL directory to find the file.

I already checked that and it was already set to softdll.dll. I even
uninstalled it and reinstalled on the boot partition as per someone elses
suggestion, and it still won't run.
Have tried it unpatched, 1.2us patch, D3D patch....all no go.

The *Papy* OpenGL renderer sucks on ATi cards. ATi OpenGL is beautiful.
Half-Life looks great with it. I've used ATi cards since my P75... ATi's
OpenGL has always been great.
Dale.
What else is running on this system, and are you running the final release
or are you still running an early beta?

I've unisntalled it now. But, I could'nt even get into the game to set the
renderer anyway. But, app.ini was set to use software mode. I even tried
changing it manually to D3D.
Yea, final release. Someone posted to me on this problem in another thread
and he thinks it's because I'm using NTFS and not FAT32. If I had converted
to NTFS from FAT32 while GPL was installed it would work on the boot
partition. But, I wiped all my partitions clean and converted all partitions
to NTFS beofre installing XP so that is why it won't run. I could convert
one parttion to FAT32, but then I would lose the data on it so don't want to
do that right now. I'll just have to wait until GPL2 comes out. :-)

I have heard of the res problem you mentioned previously, this could
be the cause of it (hopefully). Try setting your desktop to 640x480,
16bit color, 60 hz and see if that helps.

Good luck
I used to have a problem where

OK, thx. I'm not interested in this title enough anymore (sacrilege, I know)
to go screwing around with my drivers when I have already tried it on two
sets of video drivers and I like the drivers I have now because they solve a
problem with FS2002, which I would rather play than GPL anyway. I'll just
leave it*** for now until the next driver upgrade.
