N3 online question?

Hi,

I confused about the address connection screen.
What exactly is it for?  Why is it needed?  For example,
if I host a race it shows up in the arena list of races, correct?
Also, I don't understand how to use it.  If you add a new address
how do you set the Address.  I can change the name but not
the address.  How does the address field get filled in?

The address connection screen is to store IP address' of people you
know (hosts). If you were to race via "TCP/IP" instead of "internet"
you would need the address of the host for the race (IE: 206.45.6.3)
This is used so that you dont have to race on the WON servers, you can
connect directly to the host computer.
When you race on WON, you are using an "internet" connection.

I have done one race through TCP/IP using the address' section to
connect to the IP address of the host computer. Although your still
racing over the internet, it is a more direct approach and can usually
yield better latency as opposed to using the won servers through an
"internet" connection.
Anyone can correct me if Im wrong which I may be, but maybe not :)

You should see the same latency to a given host whether you connect using
the WON matching server or go directly to the host using the address book.
Once you've selected a host from the available races list, you're connecting
directly with that server - same as if you specify an IP address.

Thank you!

This now makes better sence as to how the ping rates are measured and what they
are measuring.

N3 online question?

Thanks a lot, that makes sense.  The multiplayer documentation, in
the manual, doesn't even mention anything about the address screen,
matching servers, etc, etc...
Even the screens it does explain don't look the same in the
game.  It seems the manual was finished before the game.  Oh,
well, a minor nuisance.

Another question that I have is what happens when the WON
matching server goes away (or changes).  Is there a way to
customize the game to use different matching servers?

Thanks,
Brad Rosenbaum
