Hi a friend of mine is having problems running TOCA on his IBM Aptiva. All
he gets is a phycadelic screen colours replacing the normal ones also the
resolution looks a lower than with my monster 3D. I believe the Aptiva uses
a Rage II 3d (ATI) graphics card so this is set in the opening menus and the
above problem occurs. If its set to auto detect the colours are ok but the
res is not very good main problem though is the frame rate 1 frame every 4
seconds or so... !!

Does anyone run this game with a similar setup or use a Rage II graphics
card to run the game????

Have him check this:

1.  Does he have DirectX 5.0
2.  Does he have the latest ATI Direct3D drivers
3.  Does everything show up OK under SYSTEM/Device Manager in Control
Panel

 Since he has an Aptiva and the ATI Rage is not the stock ATI Rage but a
motherboard implementation that is "close" to the Rage II, he should get his
drivers from the IBM PC Co web site and not ATI:

As for the resolution this is down to the fact that the ATI Rage uses
16 BIT textures and not 8 BIT.  16 BIT textures are usually bigger so
not as many will fit into 4 Meg.  To fit all of the textures into your
video card's memory TOCA will sometimes half certain textures which
means that some of the graphics may look blocky.
